France through. Gobert finishes the game with the most awkward looking 360 dunk I've ever seen.

Hernangomez was solid but as you note the Gasols are just way, way past their prime at this point (obviously). We must have forced at least five turnovers with them trying to force the ball inside before they figured out that was a lost cause. Still, respect to our biggest rivals over the past decade plus. We had some fun battles over the years.

Yeah, Willy was solid. But I think that Spanish fans were expecting more out of the Gasols, especially Marc. Balvin and Vesely were much more effective inside against the US, to sayS nothing about the French bigs.

It was a downer for Spain that Mirotic opted not to play, they need his offense ( relying on Rubio to be your #1 option is not ideal). Plus injury to J. Hernangomez made them even less athletic.

Overall going forward if they can get Mirotic to play, Spain can trot out Rubio-Abrines-Mirotic- Hernangomez brothers. That's better than what they had this summer.

From 46-47 to 49-62 in a few minutes.

Don't worry, Collet choose to bring back to the bench the hot guys ...

Those olympics for France look like 2006 Fifa WC with a trash coach and good players

Trash coach is actually coaching. The small ball was a bad idea (and so was not playing Poirier), but he is coaching way better than previous campaign except in 2011. At least he did not play de colo too much in the 4th considering how bad he was. The major issue relies on the lack of ball movement whcih comes from the lack of off the ball movement from many players and the lack of good picks). But Poirier would have abused of this pnr defense from the beginning if Collet had chosen him instead of his towers (Fall was just unplaybale today).

Kudos to Italy though. I was excepting Gallo's dribble drive (especially his 1 and 1 against Batum, its kinda classic for the two of them since they are kids), but not the kind of shooting in the midrange (yes, we were expecting the 3 pointers) and the good use of the ball.

Congrats to France.

We were almost point-to-point until 1 minute to the end.

Only a standing ovation for this team Italy, they have been wonderful in Belgrade and Tokyo !
Now we need just a decent center, and maybe Paolo Banchero will be the answer.

The top bracket looks like a Eurobasket tournament and what do you know Slovenia the current Eurobasket champions are in the equivalent of the finals.

Is Zoran Dragic related to Goran?

We could not have played worse and only down 4 at the quarter. I’ll take that

That’s a much better quarter.

Thybulle turned the game with his defence. Pretty sure he has 3 steals and 2 blocks.

I’d be very happy if Delly didn’t play the rest of this game. He brings nothing to the table anymore.

Thybulle on offence isn't doing anything but park in the corner.

Not asking for the ball. Just watching like a spectator.
