Gasol was such an anchor on defense at center that it’s shocking to me how low they value that position now. Achiuwa is like Harrell size, so you really don’t want him and Siakam playing together. There is absolutely no way they can justify bringing Baynes back for another go around, and the only other center on the roster is Gillespie who is a borderline NBA player. The only non-trade options left are Baynes-like signings that are just gap fillers. Even Birch, who was competent at the spot last year, is looking elsewhere. I don’t get it at all. Did they forget how to team build? Surely not, but if that’s the case, what are you doing? This roster isn’t competing for anything but a treadmill, which goes against everything you’ve been preaching since Kawhi went to LA. There is no logical answer to it, unless they’re going to move Siakam and they know Wiseman is coming back. I just don’t get it, and I don’t want to hear about “they’re still working on it” - no, they’re working on fixing their Dragic mess that they were clearly not prepared for.

It just feels like a disaster off-season to me. I get it’s been two days into free agency but They seem to have no logical plan at all.

Wasn't expecting much coming back from the Heat for Lowry. Yet, not a fan of us taking the deal before finding a suitor for Dragic.

There should be pressure for Miami to find his new home too because they wouldn't have cap space to sign Lowry at 90M. Seems like we're taking on all that responsibility ourselves and might just be stuck with him.

Basing it off all the rumours/news coming out. If there was a suitor for Dragic from the start, don't see why that wasn't announced already.

There have been posters on this board that have been planning for a S&T since we kept him at the deadline, so for them not to have an exact plan on the first day of free agency for all scenarios is shocking. And it probably cost them Holmes, a starting caliber center that they’ve now missed out on, which is even more inexplicable. Holmes was clearly waiting on us to do something with Dragic and his agent quickly realized the market dried up so he re-signed there.

This front office hasn’t made too many missteps the last few years but they’re no better now than they were at the end of the season and it doesn’t feel like there’s a clear cut strategy on what to do.

I guess my question is: why would Masai agree to a S&T of Lowry for Dragic and Precious if he didn't already sort out a trade for him? Obviously if you take a guy on a deal that everyone knows you don't want, GMs around the league are going charge you to absorb that guy. Either your using assets to offload him or your taking on longer term salary for a worse player, in which case you can get some assets back for the cap relief you provided.

I can only assume he did it for one of the 3 following reasons, or a combination of a few:
A) He really thinks Precious is special
B) He didn't think we could do better than Dragic and Precious in Free Agency
C) He wanted to operate above the cap to allow us to add someone using the MLE.

The first two ideas are up for debate, but now that we do have access to the MLE, who are we going to sign with it? The market is drying up fast. I thought Hood's deal might be useful as a salary ballast to a bigger trade but I guess now that you have Dragic, you don't really need to hang on to Hood for those purposes.

Just not really sure what the direction is for this team. If the goal is to rebuild, there's no shortage of crappy contracts we can take on for compensation. We also have FVV and Siakam who can be dealt for very good value as well.

If the goal is to compete, then we need to make a pretty big trade because this team still has quite a few serious holes in it.

He was an undrafted player who this organization developed into a very solid player. He played an important role on our championship team, was resigned to a 4yr/80m deal and now after 5 years is the team's starting point guard.

Why on earth would he demand a trade? Do you really think FVV strikes you as that kind of guy? This board has gone insane.

Technically I think we can but it would be a pretty extreme move I would think that can hurt trade negotiations in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised if we go back to them and ask for a SRP or something as compensation, but don't expect us to call it off completely.

Would be pretty dramatic if we do considering Kyle already announced it lol. Would be entertaining though if it did happen .

Dragic and Lowry are roughly the same age, roughly put up 16ppg when healthy. I don't get why people think there is a huge drop off at this stage. The Heat moved off Dragic because of his contract and their desire to please Jimmy.

The only feasible explanation I have for the whole thing is that they made a promise to Kyle to S&T him wherever he wanted to go and quickly. It still doesn’t explain why they didn’t hold the market up until someone took Dragic, but they definitely valued what Kyle wanted pretty highly. And I’m totally fine with that! The lack of a proper plan otherwise is what I’m frustrated about.

You can't announce trades yet, and we don't leak anything, so there could very well be a deal for Goran already in place. I'm betting the deal is to the Mavs for one of their surplus centres+ pick.

Also worth noting that DP has only 6M guaranteed in 2022/23. Its not a horrible contract. But he needs to get back close to what he was pre-injury. I never watched team Canada to see if he looked good there. Bonus: He's also 6'9

basically we're not going to get a player that can be one of those big 3 guys.

it's mostly players where they would not get playing time anywhere else, plays that dont want to cross the border too often that they should.

Since Lowry is leaving already, we're not going to be a big factor in the playoffs.
we might as well do full rebuild trade pascal for and upgrade in other areas of need.
