Andre Drummond signs with 76ers for 1 year at veterans minimum

If there was ever any lingering doubt from Drummond defenders as to what his value would be in the open market I think this ends that conversation.

I wonder if he had interest in coming back to Detroit. He has the same agent as Cade.

I think he has some pride left not to do that
But man, the guy is still only 27 years old, what a waste..
Say what you will about SVG, but he at least had foresight to try and trade him until Gores likely nixed it back in 2017 for Valanciunas

If SVG had had foresight, he wouldn't have given him a max contract in 2016.

Anticipating the first 76ers practice when Embiid tells him that he was always meant to be his backup lol
How funny is it to consider when they used to battle, Drummond and some delusional posters saw him in the same tier of center as Embiid and now he’s getting the minimum.

Basically what I came to say. At least Simmons won’t feel so bad about his limitations on offense now.

How much did he cost himself by opting in last offseason? There was like no high profile free agents. Someone would've gave him 100 mil no question. I also think the Lakers was a bad choice when he got bought out. He would've played past the first round on Brooklyn.

I still like to give people the benefit of the doubt in most regards. Obviously we know Drummond has had, and probably still has, some motivation issues. But I doubt his mindset is "Screw it, I got paid, I don't need to get better." I think more than anything he's just never had the talent to achieve the potential people thought he could. Basically he's just an athletic freak whose basketball playing ability doesn't come close to matching his athleticism level.

It'd be a scary bet on between the two of them, who'd win the free throw battle in practice. Gun to my head, I legitimately wouldn't know how to choose
One guy is one of the worst FT% of all time for a regular season, and another guy completely shuts down mentally in high stakes situations

His biggest problem isn't others expectations. It's that he doesn't have a realistic picture of his own abilities or more likely is unwilling to accept them and adapt his game accordingly.
If he focused his energies on defense, improved his fundamentals (e.g. boxing out), and just followed simple instructions then he wouldn't be anywhere near the circumstances he is currently faced with.

So if we could somehow interchange Simmons mental hesitancy to shoot shots with Drummond's delusions of grandeur then we'd end up with two much better basketball players.

It is interesting he'd choose to play with Embiid. Maybe he doesn't have to play against him that way? Or Embiid will just torment him full time.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

That's not what I said. I think people had high expectations of him based solely on the fact that he has freak athleticism for his size, not that those high expectations were detrimental to his development. My point was that I think his level of ability to play the game is far lower than his athletic ability, all motor/motivation issues aside. Not everyone can be a good basketball player simply because they work hard, have the right mindset and have great athleticism. Natural ability is required as well.

I can’t wait to see I-Stew go against Embiid & Drummond this season.

You figure if he opted out he could have probably got something like 4 years/$50-60 million. Now he’s looking at a career of bouncing from team to team on small deals…at best. Because no one wants him, he joined the sixers…more importantly to be Embiids caddy.
