Im not against moving Mo or Wendell but Im not doing that before the season. Im sure Weltman told Robin that he might not play every game and offered him more money than anywhere else. Its a great signing.

Also I know Robin Lopez is not the greatest C or anything. But because you can get players like him at $5m is why I am hesitant on giving big long deals to players like Wendell or Mo.

5M is Khem Birch money and even at 3rd stringer, I love this deal. Add to that that for me neither Carter nor Bamba has demonstrated starting capacity, for now, C is the second weakest position for the Magic after PF.

If we are paying Robin Lopez $5M to be a coach, then I'm perfectly fine with this. It just seems like he could find a spot where his on-court value is desired to some extent or another. Maybe he really does just want to spend a year living in Orlando. I don't know.

Can't Moe Wagner play some 4?

I would still like to keep MoW but I think his path was revealed when his own brother took his jersey number  Also, when Franz was asked about what it would be like to play with his brother he just ducked it and said "Well, he's a free agent so..."

Too bad...I love ROLO but it would be nice to have a bench 4/5 that could shoot the 3...just to offer different looks.

FFBlitzace wrote:I personally don't think this means anything. It's a one year deal, and 5 million isn't actually very much. It's probably only that high because, again, it's only one year, because we're not using money on anything else this summer, and because he probably had vet minimum offers from other teams and needed a reason to not go to a better team for the minimum. I could be wrong, but I think you guys are crazy.

I agree with you. He's 33 and he's got a 1 year deal. Don't know how anyone jumps to the conclusion that this signals Bamba is gone. Robin Lopez will get as much PT as Mosgov got unless there is a major injury.

I bet Birch would like to have that 5m about right now. As far as I know he hasn't signed yet.

I don't really agree with this.

There is maybe one poster on this board who would actually care about being right about Bamba sucking, && I won't name him (I don't think I have to), but in general, most of us are just fans who feel that a good deal of Mo's struggles on this team have been self-inflicted.

I'm not a Bamba fan, but I'd be ecstatic If he turned into something. That's why I've been open to keeping him this season, as a trial by fire year leading into RFA. I'd also be more than fine with moving on. He just hasn't shown enough imo.

the $$$$ are completely irrelevant. It's a one-year deal, we're not players in free agency...it might as well be $15m (like Jeff Green :nonono: ). I can't imagine the scenario where that money would create a hindrance. I figure Ross and/or Harris (and maybe one of the young Centers) go in a bigger deal at the trade deadline, but other than one more deep bench signing, I think we're good.

this is a great pickup assuming he's given the role of vet presence, mentor and referee to the two children fighting for the Center spot, team enforcer/protector, locker room comedian, quality minutes doing the dirty work and grinding out smart plays. I think he'll be a great example and a steadying force for this young team. I'm only surprised that he's taking 5 with us rather than ring chase with LAL, LAC, MIL, etc...good for him and us if he's just content to play a role on a developing team with a good atmosphere.

I was having lunch TODAY and literally said ROLO is the only type of FA guy I'd like to add...apparently I spoke it into existence.

More quality team building from WeHam.

I don’t think it’s really people hating on Bamba. It’s just with someone his size and nature you almost automatically think he has some potential. And he never was able to put it together. He just seemed very slow and not interested in the plays to be honest. Maybe it’s a work ethic thing or it could possibly have been due to our coaching staff. I wish him the best but I do hope he gets traded from us.

would have really no sense to lets bamba go elsewhere right now.

whatever you think about him, give the guy 20 minutes every night and see what he can do first mounths of the season.

if he fails let him go at the deadline,we have nothing to lose to let him play and play rob lopez instead would be meaningless

The problem is the lack of positional versatility. Lopez can't share the floor with Bamba or WCJ. It just made all the sense in the world for the third center on the roster to be able to fill other roles.

Maybe we'll see some "smallball" Isaac at C this year.

Hindsight is 20/20...it's not like the Bamba pick shocked the NBA community. Sometimes it doesn't work out.
