depends on the team, honestly. MN would mostly be for a potential pick, but Culver would be an interesting flyer.

if it's SA and not for DDR, I'm not as familiar with their roster. Potentially there are pieces there that could fit that mold, just have no idea how realistic they are or if they've shown those skills yet.

First off, the bad. DD is not a great outside shooter. He also isn't a particularly good defender. He is on the wrong side of 30 and will be paid a lot. There are concerns here.

Now let's talk about what I think the Bulls are trying to be: IMO, the end goal is to be kind of like Denver with some tweaks. Vucevic plays the hub center role where he plays in the high post and drops to the low post. He moves around and is the primary pick setter. Around him, you have 4 perimeter players who cut off ball, take open shots on catch and shoot but mostly run pick and roll or attack off swing passes. Effectively, you should have 4 point forwards and a center.

On defense, they are trying to get to have bigger wing style, athletic players who can switch, help, etc.

DD checks off a lot of boxes here for what Chicago wants. Let go of the idea of traditional PG / SG / SF / PF roles and it makes a lot of sense. It also is why they haven't been too high on Wendell, Lauri, Gafford, etc. who couldn't fill any of the roles on offense.

Sorry to quote myself but I ask this: If DD falls through and I am right, who else is moderately available who could fit in this system? Is there a 6'8" wing player who can handle the ball that could be had for Lauri?

I'm not sure, but I'd wager we try to deal him for Culver and a 1st.

At that point, we'd at least have two big expiring contracts, a trade exception, an extra first, and Coby to dangle at the trade deadline.

If he takes a small deal from the Clippers or Lakers, good for him. Can’t do anything about it

Are the Clippers even appealing right now? They can't offer him much money, don't have anything of note to offer in a sign & trade, haven't resigned Reggie Jackson... If DeRozan is doing this it's to try and win a championship on Leonard's team without Leonard as payback for getting him traded out of Toronto.

He's made 176M in his career so far, he's hardly the next Schroder or Noel. He's been paid and is generationally wealthy. His choice is to chase more money or chase a better shot at a ring. This isn't a guy passing on a contract worth double or four times his career earnings to date if he chooses the ring. He's passing on a deal worth about 20% of his career earnings.

He probably knows he's not going to get a better shot to get paid if he doesn't take the money now, so it's just straight winning vs money IMO.

If DeRozen comes to the Bulls you have to look at the Bulls as a contender in the East. Also Kawhi is going to be out most of next year so don’t see how the Clippers offer that much more opportunity to win than the Bulls also considering how much better the Western Conference is.

Think it will be really tough to get a 1st out of Minny unless it is heavily protected for a long time. Lauri isn't likely to draw a lottery risk 1st, and Minnesota is bad enough that if that protection is lottery until 2nd rounder that we could very conceivably get a 2nd.

At that point, we'd at least have two big expiring contracts, a trade exception, an extra first, and Coby to dangle at the trade deadline.

Yeah, if we could get the protections down to top 7 on the 1st and get it in 2023 then it'd also do a good job at freeing up our ability to trade other picks that we own too (they'd still have to be conditional trades on us retaining one of the picks but you'd have some options).

Lauri TPE will be small now that his deal is looking more like a 10-16M dollar range as it would only be half of whatever that amount is, so 5-8M. Still could be useful if anyone just needs to shed a salary to get out of the tax and is willing to send something though or for us to acquire a bench player to cover an injury or something later.

Another negative is on joining the clippers, kawhi down likely for the next year.

So your going to take a hefty pay cut to play on a clippers team that won't be a contender til a year later? Again I'll believe it when I see it

Part of me feels derozan is playing this clipper thing up to get us to go up on our price. Same way rose played the return home up to get 15 million per from the knicks.

DeRozan is from LA so that's definitely a point for the Clippers, but if his primary goal is to either join a winner or get paid he's not accomplishing either.

I like the idea of adding Derozan. I don’t like the idea of starting Patrick at the 4.
