Some of these big signings make me scratch my head. In a lot of cases, teams are just paying existing players, not really improving their rosters.
For instance, Phoenix just kept their team with signing Paul and Payne. They still have to pay Ayton and Bridges. But will that team be good enough? They will probably win 50-55 games again but not clear they will go to the Finals again.
Heat paid Butler, Robinson and signed Lowry. Does that make them a lot better than a first-round exit? Maybe they get to second round or if everything falls right, they get to the ECF again. Not a contender despite all that money.
Knicks paid Burks, Noel, Rose, all part of a first-round exit team. They gave a big contract to Fournier. I doubt that moves the needle that much.
Lakers break up their championship core to get WB and then sign a lot of minimum deals. Maybe it will work. WB will help them win games in the regular season and then not be a factor in the playoffs as usual.
Philly is looking to move Simmons, maybe for someone like CJ. That won't make them better.
