How long until it finally dawns on the majority that trading KAT away will be more productive than trading for KAT’s buddies.
It might never dawn on any of us, because trading KAT away would be flat out stupid unless we got a ridiculously huge return.
That exactly the point. To execute a trade before he asks out. But it’s a very tricky thing to do without upsetting the player if the trade never happens.
But a large return would be necessary and an all star + multiple firsts would be worth it if it makes us more stout defensively while not giving up much offensively and gives us more trade capital to use to bolster the roster around ant.
It’s very hard to take a team that was player A’s team (KAT)
And then suddenly say, nope, now it’s player B’s team (Ant) when player A is still on the team.
Sometimes cutting the past out to making way for the future is necessary in the long term for the betterment of the team. If you can get an excellent return, that shores up the present and gives future flexibility (assets for trades/picks) that allows the team to transform its identity. Go for it.
Because right now the culture follows player A.
That culture from afar looks soft and and inept defensively. It’s why a defensive coach can come in and still have a team that struggles defensively. The team follows player A. That’s why that same coach can go to another team and it plays well defensively. Because that teams player A isn’t soft and inept defensively.
It’s easy to deny and make up reasons why defense has been an issue. But it’s been an issue because from Love to Towns , Player A had been a one sided player who can’t lead what they can’t do.
