Better trade him.

I feel like a couple weeks ago if someone here had suggested signing him for this kinda $$$ that would have gotten laughed at.

The guy does play hard but this deal is pretty shocking to me.
Feels like if we signed him for $5 mil I'd be saying the same thing......

If he gets more $$$ on the market than Lauri that will be pretty funny.
Like we all assumed Markkannen would make his mark and $$$ in the NBA shooting 3's
Maybe it turns out if he played harder D he would be more coveted......

Compare him to Marcus Smart - because apparently he is on that level as a perimeter defender. Smart is making 14M this upcoming season.

Caruso is actually a better shooter / more efficient - though doesn't put up the volume so it's not clear how efficiency would hold up with more use (and, for near 10M, I'm expecting more use).

I tend to agree that this is a bit of an overpay, but I get the thought process behind the move. And it may not be in a vacuum - not just re Lonzo but whatever else is going on this offseason.

Theis signed with Houston for a million less. I would have rather had Theis. Who is going to protect the rim? I get the fact that the Bulls had no perimeter defense but now they have no interior defense.

Ideally, he'd be the backup to our 2nd best player, a role that is only like 20mpg, and as such, it would be better suited for someone with more positional versatility, like Thad. Even if Thad is gone, in today's NBA it's much easier and cheaper to fill a frontcourt role than a guard one. The BAE or even the minimum can get you a quality 15mpg big.

Also, I know this might come as a shocker to some of you, but barring another move (quite possible, BTW), Caruso might be our starter PG. Even more importantly, even if not starting, I think he's the favorite to be our closer at the 1. Caruso, Lavine, Lonzo, Pat and Vuc is our most balanced lineup right now.
He's a good two-way player that can hit the 3 and defend 1-3 in switching, zone and tradicional defensive schemes. That's EASILY worth the MLE.

We're not rebuilding anymore, so get used to paying good players what they're worth.

I liked Theis but his foul issues were a serious problem, and can't be blamed on the refs. Even in his Boston days, he has consistently been called for fouls. This is giving the opponent easy points, and stopping momentum.

Can anyone confirm/deny if this was a S&T to where we're keeping the MLE or not?

You really dont want to play caruso, lonzo, and pat at the same time. As it stands now, id rathet start coby at the 2, and keep caruso for the bench. We’ll see.

Don't tell me about starting Coby at any role,he's a bench player, better use him in some trade now or by the deadline.

Yeah I couldn't anything official. Would be clutch if we'd still have our MLE to offer, not really sure what options are out there that'd accept the MLE at this point.

We need Theis next to Vuc. I’m still adamant about keeping Pat at the 3. Caruso isn’t a starter.

Caruso will likely be our backup pg.

He was very important for our bad defensive frontcourt.

Why are people so insistent on trading Coby? He's a great option as a backup 2.

He should be moved because he could be considered an asset to net us some depth at the big spots.

All of Zach, Lonzo, Caruso, Demar, Brown Jr & Ayo could all see legitimate rotation minutes at the PG/SG. Every one of those players can handle the ball and make plays for others. Coby simple doesn’t fit with the style of play that we’ll be seeing. Personally I’d love to try and trade him for Reddish or a more traditional big to play at the PF spot.

there will be no asterisk in the history books. and the lakers weren't trying any harder than anyone else

the lakers havent won anything in over a decade. the last two Finals winners were Tor & Mil.

milwaukee's title would get WAY more of an asterisk than LA's. didn't face a single A-list opponent. if kevin durant's toe hadn't been on the line, budenholzer would be out of a job right now

the previous year LA didn't get the benefit of the home court advantage that they earned in the regular season. they didn't need it

I'd love to deal Coby to Washington for Hachimura or to a lesser extent Advija .

I'm not sure why some are thinking this means Coby is gone? He simply comes off the bench with Caruso. Stagger the minutes so that one of Ball/DeRozan/LaVine is there with him, he's got an ideal role now.

I think its great that we signed Kirk Hinrich to back up Lonzo. Great offseason.
We have Martell Webster. He's called Kyle Korver here, and we shall love him and squeeze him and call him Ashton. -BrooklynBulls

We've got Caruso and are supposedly chasing Danny Green. To me, that would suggest that Coby is expendable...right? Maybe we're shopping him for a PF.
