Having 3 centers is not a problem. We still can add a forward and replace bacon. Also have our 2 way deals to use.

On 2k I try to keep 3 guys at each position even if the players have positional versatility ie PG/SG SG/SF...ect...

Robin Lopez is actually still a solid roleplayer. I don't think he signed here to ride the bench and get DNPCDs.

I swear, the headline could've read, "Magic to sign Greg Oden" and tons of people here would be saying "Bye Bye Mo"

What? Robin Lopez has zero impact on the decision to keep Mo or WCJ. He’s a 33 year old on a one year deal…

Re: Magic to sign Robin Lopez
I dislike Bamba more than most on here, but this just means we have more depth and injury insurance to two injury prone C's to me.
Again, as much as I dislike Bamba, we should see what he can do under Mosley for at least a half a season and see if he or WCJ are worth keeping.
We should not be playing a veteran over any of these two until at least the trade deadline. Nothing else would make sense.

Re: Magic to sign Robin Lopez
They needed a third string center so they signed a third string center.
I'm sure the $5 mill for 1 year was to draw him in given the short contract on a bad team. We needed some veteran presence. I anticipate Lopez knows the role he's walking into. He and his brother are huge Disney fanatics and I believe they own a place in Orlando just so they can go to Disney. Living in Orlando, visiting Disney on your day off, making $5 million, and never playing seems like a good gig. Ultimately, the Magic will have to make a decision on Carter Jr. vs Bamba. At least if they trade one mid-season, the will have an 3rd string center that can step up.

A 3M contract in 2019 looks to equate to about a 5M contract for 2021. They are in the same ball park at least (above LLE but below MLE contracts).

Assuming Bacon is released, this is the current roster:
Suggs/Anthony/Fultz(IR)
Harris/Hampton
Isaac/Ross/Carter-Williams
Okeke/Wagner
Carter/Bamba/Lopez
Usually the Magic like to carry a 14 man roster (an open slot to hire an injured-pleaser replacement so that nobody needs to be waived). A agree that a combo-forward or an outright PF makes sense. Victor Wagner could fit that role. And as for TW contracts, Brazdeikis could/should be one and then Frank Mason or Chasson Randle for the other.
And that's our 2021/22 Orlando Magic roster.

We paid him 5.5m+ in 2 years and Toronto paid the difference to equal 6m.RookieStar wrote:drsd wrote:RookieStar wrote:Yeah... since when did Birch even sniff 5m/yr? As far as I remember we paid him 2m or less per year. Birch would cream for that kind of contract.

When the news of Lopez's signing was announced, I was a little surprised he would accept a third-string role even though it's late in his career.
I was hoping he would accept this role as I'm not ready to give up on Bamba yet.
He will push Bamba and hopefully bring out the best in him.

but if we brought Lopez in to "semi coach" the young guys, Birch wasnt around the league enough to have that role. I think the extra was for the extra work they want Lopez to do with the young guys

Coach Mosley as a player-development coach, it makes sense that he want these types of vets on the roster.

Being a Disney fanatic at the end of his career, they own a home here, actually makes sense as to why he signed here.

lets see if both wcj and mo still here after trade deadline time will tell ..lopez is a guy that can if needed play ..not some undrafted or late 2nd rd pick most rebuilding teams have for 3rd string center..when they have 6th and 7th pick about to be rfa
and to further point i like mo upside more then wcj still at this point..wcj plays small..just need mo to show more ...want to be great in his game...get a edge to his game...i dont really want magic to pay either unless one shows alot more this yr..heck i would trade both at deadline if they dont show more ...lol

Re: Magic to sign Robin Lopez
I said this in another thread, but the biggest decision the Magic have to make the soonest is whether Carter Jr. or Bamba are worth keeping. Having Lopez in preseason, training camp, and practices will give everyone a baseline understanding of what these guys are actually worth. Yeah, if Bamba or Carter Jr. can't outplay Robin Lopez, then we probably should give up.
