jay cutler was a little bit good. gonna take more than that

Jay also was a bit prickly. Didn't handle the spotlight all that well and also was up against a prime Aaron Rodgers all of those years + had terrible supporting casts on the offensive side of the ball.

Mitch never had this level of support. People questioned the trade-up and selecting him over Watson from day one.

Derrick was a whirlwind but still didn't feel as big as Justin does. Bryant/Rizzo/Baez were touted but also the city was split with the Sox so they never felt as big as this. Kane + Toews were big but still, the Hawks were so low those days and they still weren't at his level.

There's just a confidence in this city that Justin Fields is a franchise altering Quarterback unlike anything we've ever had before. It's a beautiful thing.

agreed. it's not like fields is mr. personality though. it will require him to both outperform cutler and be in the playoffs regularly to become the toast of the town

Derrick was a whirlwind but still didn't feel as big as Justin does...

he was certainly bigger at his peak. even after his career imploding people want him back here. nobody will be clamoring for fields to return and retire here if he is nothing more than a journeyman starting QB like andy dalton

There's just a confidence in this city that Justin Fields is a franchise altering Quarterback unlike anything we've ever had before. It's a beautiful thing.

i think it's more hopeful optimism than confidence, but it's certainly higher than it was w/ trubisky for reasons you mentioned...along with the fact that the team has had some recent success, which wasn't the case when trubisky came in

Trying to compare apples to apples in terms of post draft/pre playing hype. And you're right, it's not quite confidence just yet, it's a mixture of excitement and hope unlike anything I've ever seen as a fan.

QBs really aren't big personalities imo, there's an aura of quiet, supreme confidence and an intense drive that fuels them. Rodgers, Brady, Wilson and Mahomes all have that alike IMO and from what I've seen of Justin, he's got that.

Tevin might be missing his shot at LT. If he doesn’t practice in camp it would be hard for the team to put hin in later on that island. FWIW the Bears trying to salvage the situation by using a different rookie, Borom

With Germain Ifedi on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and Elijah Wilkinson absent from practice, it was fifth-round rookie Larry Borom who took reps at left tackle and second-year player Lachavious Simmons at left tackle with the first-team offense.

“I like his footwork,” Nagy said of Borom before practice. “I think he’s really light-footed for being such a big man. I don’t know if he can play left tackle. That’s why we’re trying to put him there, to see. It’s not easy when you go from the right side to the left side, but I think now is the time to see really what he can do. It would be pretty cool to see that you find out, you draft a guy in the fifth round and then you end up having a guy that can do some big things for us. So we’re going to test him out.”

I dont mind picking him naturally. But these (non QB) unnecessary trade-ups are absolutely ridiculous at this point. Picks are already long shots without upping the ante. Hopefully someone locks Pace in a closet on draft day next year. Assuming he’s here.

In any case, this LT situation is becoming alarming in some ways. The Bears don’t have any significant replacement for Jenkins, and for them to play Larry Borom there at this point in camp could be nothing. But it could be something. The Bears better not have ignored a medical flag on Jenkins.

Lordy, this is actually ominous. The Bears are publicly considering Borum LT1. What is going on here is unbelievable, no way for myself to continue advocating for Fields to be thrown into this current mess.

It’s coming out now that Jenkins had a lumbar strain/injury in school which kept him out of the final games.

Dan O calling for Fields to be the starter day one! Love it. Think it’s going to be so obvious after a couple weeks that Nagy will lose the team if Fields doesn’t start.

He's kind of a clown after his pre draft talk of Fields but this is something I've been OK with from Nagy in his time here:

- He started Mooney right away when he had zero hype to him - 10/10 move
- Montgomery got the keys pretty much after week 1 in his rookie year
- Kmet was brought along slowly (TEs take a minute to develop)

The talk around the QB room is really good right now. They couldn't afford to have Dalton suck and then have Fields just win the job by default - it wouldn't work. Having the level of play being safely raised to at least Dalton's level and having Fields blow him out of the water is the best case scenario and could be happening.

First pass looks like a dart..

Second video he threw behind the wide out, but he looks nice.

Mooney's nasty. Also a dart from Dalton. As long as they hold Andy up I think he can execute, long enough until Justin is ready.

Edit

It was Foles

Live here in SF and just saw on local news a reporter going crazy about Trey Lance. Said he's the best rookie QB he has ever seen on a practive field in training camp. Said he's better than JimmyG right now and should start week 1.

I am trying to keep expectations in check, and I know rookies need time to adjust and carve out their role, but still...
