I can't see much regarding Simmons being called a yank. He legitimately grew up in Australia, played a lot of Australian rules football etc growing up and moved to Montverde when he was around 15/16. People are just tired of his excuses.

The concerns about Simmons’ character didn’t magically appear the moment he arrived on campus in Baton Rouge. Those sentiments also have been expressed by members of the Australian national team who have spent time with him at the junior and senior levels. Australian players and coaches who have been around him don’t speak about him in flattering terms, calling him “the Yank” to highlight how different he is compared with most of the players from that country, and perhaps highlight how much moving to the United States at a young age and immersing himself in the AAU world has shaped him.

From even before he shunned the national team in 2016 and 2019.

As recently as 2020 Andrew Bogut has talked on his podcast about how he feels Simmons changes his accent to sound “more Australian” when he’s Down Under, strickly for marketing reasons. I also have a couple Aussie buddies who do nothing but **** talk the dude who I’ve been going back and forth with, so maybe I’m projecting their “up in armsness” on to some of you.

Simmons accent does a good job of highlighting one of the many reasons why he's a clown. He developed a pretty much full on American accent after a year in the US, meanwhile guys like Mills/Bogut/Ingles/Exum sound almost exactly the same now as they did 10 years ago.
IMO, that alone says enough about the type of guy Simmons is

As itsxtray says above, it gets more complicated than white Aussies are willing/able to understand when you’re talking about a young POC with a Black American father trying to fit in amongst a mostly Black American NBA world. Bogut types would certainly be the ones to judge him harshly/call him out for that. The fact of the matter is most Aussies wouldn’t be half as hard on him if he’d chosen to suit up for one of your perpetually 4th place teams over the years.

Anyway, U.S women giving the Opals a little taste of what’s gonna happen to the Boomers tomorrow. Love to see it.

Aussies now dogs by 12 points vs. Team USA in the semis.

Then again, France were i think 8 point dogs.

Still, Americans have woken up, so bad timing for Australia, who's sending their best team ever likely and had that unfortunate draw to be on the same side as USA.

While i want to see a good game at this stage of the tournament... USA by 20.

Brilliant news for Jock.

Hopefully as a PONC he can somehow find his way in a mostly POC NBA. Hopefully he code switches when speaking with NBA POC players vs NBA PONC players otherwise he'll get lost and confused in himself.

Tough game for Aussies to win. Whilst they can probably keep pace for most of it they need to avoid those runs where KD can easily rack up 12 points in 2 minutes.

Some people do pick up accents when living overseas.

I lived in America with a mate from Australia many years ago and he picked up an American accent while I didn't. He didn't even notice he was doing it. I also lived in London for some time and did pick up a slight accent - it happens.

If USA wins it will be by 6 or 7 at most. I don't have a lot of faith in this US team though...I hope to be wrong

Nothing for Slovakia, they are not participating. As for Slovenia, France and USA/Aus are the best equipped to deal with Luka.

if Ben had actually ever committed to the AUS team, they might not be the perpetual 4. And chances are he would have developed some other aspects of his game along the way. That ship seems to have sailed. And don't count on a blowout against the AUS. Their women's best generation was great, but is not there anymore, while AUS men minus Bogut are very much present.

All this American pumping on the chest is nauseating and why I’m happy to see China top of the gold medal tally, despite disliking that country.

I am proud of my Aussie team, win, lose or draw, and will support them no matter what.
As a Philly supporter since the Iverson days, i wanted an Australian on the team, and was even disappointed when we drafted Embiid over Exum (stupid in hindsight). I was almost in tears when we got the first pick and the possibility of Simmons. I was shaking when we got him. I signed up here so afterwards. I was probably one of the first to get his jersey in the Australia. Ordered it through the official website and waited and waited and waited until the contract was approved and then waited for the courier to deliver the jersey. Since then, I have grown tired of his ways. Still have the jersey. But meh. Players like Mills and Jingles and Baynes are what we are about. Despite their fame in America, they have never lost sight of who they are. They do our country proud, no matter the outcome.

I get it all the banter from my mates (convict etc) but yours has a jerkish feel to it. Just the vibe, though that’s probably not what’s intended.

If we go by the bookies all the time, why not just distribute championships before the season or the games? all I said is that the 3 other teams are better equipped to stop Luka than the previous ones. And this is a good reason why I have never engaged in betting.

People crying about Simmons accent? Lol. What exactly does “it say” about him?

To me it says he can adapt to communicate better with the people around him. Being from south florida with so many people from other places, I see it as normal.

Anyway, what time is the game? Do I need to take a nap this afternoon to prepare?
