What is the Blazers FO doing?

Post#1 » by taufblazers33 » Wed Aug 4, 2021 7:31 pm

In the midst of increased pressure from their superstar Lillard on improving the team's roster and trajectory towards a deep playoff run, the Blazers additions thus far are:

Tony Snell
Ben McLemore
Cody Zeller

I know roster can still be shuffled and a trade can be made but it's not a good start to Dame's demands.

They have loyal star players who aren’t putting pressure on them to improve so they are content being a playoff team more often than not.

Blazers have no assets to build a contender unless they're able to move McCollum for something more, I hope they won't go Rockets route to spend assets to satisfy Harden (Westbrook trade) who demanded a trade year after.

They should trade CJ, but to me the conundrum is this: the only good assets they have are future picks. Right now they don't owe any. Do you trade a bunch of them for a 2nd fiddle (don't even know if there's one other than Simmons on the market), and then if that doesn't work and Dame asks out, now you don't have your picks? Seems untenable to me, and to me the only way to put that second start next to Dame would be FA, which isn't an option, or go back a few years and make different moves.

Neil Olshey's hubris level is such that he quite likely thinks the talent level he has assembled is enough to contend and he can merely scapegoat Stotts as being the entire issue.

That being said, our current roster makes no sense on any basketball level, so I have to think that a few more moves are still to come. There's also some conflicting info on whether the deal Zeller was signed to was for the minimum or the TPMLE amount.

Okay, Blazers fan here. To fans of other teams, make your offer for any non-Dame package here and feel free to make use of any draft capital we have. We have all of our future firsts, but few seconds.

I think the responses to this post will answer your question.

I’m surprised this is the situation billups wanted out of the jobs/positions he was rumored for and didn’t even go out for.

Did you miss Dame's whole offseason so far?

Just check out Olshey's statements after Stotts got fired, he's delusional enough to believe he's already done a sufficient job constructing the roster

They should have moved on from CJ at least to shuffle the deck.

That was crazy. Couldn't believe he was so proud of his roster construction. The last two draft picks the team made that start for them are Dame and CJ, and not breaking up that pairing was also fatal. They would've been better off if they had traded all of their draft picks after that for a real difference maker than continuing to select projects at the end of the first.

They should trade CJ regardless. That said I don't see any player being available as of now.

It’s so mind boggling. The arrogance of the guy and the fact you can be that delusional is almost unbelievable. I guess this is what happens when there is nobody above him that cares or puts any pressure on him. Jody Allen doesn’t know basketball so she is gonna just refer to Olshey on bball stuff and he just blows smoke up her a**. An owner that cared and wanted to win would hear his interview about how the roster is constructed fine and he would be canned. It’s really frustrating as a fan to know the organization is content with mediocrity and would rather be ok than roll the dice and go for broke. I’ll appreciate this season with dame because I don’t see him being here for much longer and it’s hard to blame him

Blazers are Wizards West, teams that should probably blow it up but keep delaying the inevitable b/c their star players are kinda/not really asking out.

CJ + one or two protected 1st-round picks for Siakam, who it sounds like is gettable.

If Blazers fans are sick of being just a decent team and want a real shot at a championship, then the team needs to be blown up, including trading Dame. The Blazers have no path to building a real contender around Dame.
