Which explains why he’s trending on Twitter.

Assuming he’s on a low cost deal, LA may have gotten a serious bargain for a floor spacing young guard.
Though, I’m unconvinced he’s ready for the bright lights of a premier team in a title quest.

Very true - he received that susupension for substance of abuse (cocain), so I hope he remains on the right track.

I hope he stays healthy. He's young but his body has been fragile even if OKC just sat him for most of the second half last season.

I’d love to have at shot at rehabbing Lauri Markkanen. He’d slot perfectly next to Capela or Okongwu.

What do you plan to do with John Collins? You want to pay $20 million to rehab him? (rumor that's his ask).
Bulls don't want back salary and are also looking for a 1st round pick - talk about unrealistic.

DS turned down a huge offer from LAL last season, gambling on himself. It hasn't worked out for him just yet. But he could be in line for a big year in BOSTON as he hopes to land a bigger deal next season.

Chicago wants a first round pick for him.
He wants out so bad that it's going to cost him a lot of money next season.

He will be productive this season for Boston and sign a $80m or more contract after the season. He messed up but he will get his second Chance at the large payday.

What a joke Kevin Love has become.

Kevin Love, who is dealing with conditioning issues and a calf strain, could be in line for a diminished role for the Cavs this season.

Cleveland has been unable to move Love, who is still owed $60 million, and he was reportedly out of shape before withdrawing from Team USA this summer. Add in the fact that Cleveland now has Evan Mobley (No. 3 pick), Jarrett Allen and Larry Nance Jr., and Love could easily disappear this season. We're probably not touching him in fantasy leagues.

The Cavs are culpable in this as well. They should have long since starting phasing him out.

How do you suggest they do it? Just tell him to stay home because I doubt they receive any value for him.

Kevin Love doesn't want to act like the veteran he is but he goes public with his mental health issues. I don't care for him at all. Maybe he will focus more on the career that's paying him $30m per season once he's on another team.

Code: Select all

They remind me of Denver from a few years ago, where Denver kind of hit on almost everyone who they drafted... There are guys that had to go, because they had too many guys and you couldn't extend them all. It's a good problem to have.

I feel like Atlanta will have that problem here coming up, so I think at any point that you're thinking about superstars getting traded, the Atlanta Hawks are a team, if they so choose, could get any superstar in the league.

Any superstar in the league that asks out, if the Atlanta Hawks wanted that person, they could get him...They could get any single superstar in the league right now, it's just whether or not it's worth it.

I hope this kid finds a spot that can take advantage of his strengths. Perhaps in San Antonio, they have a long history developing international players.

Or Detroit, they seem to be collecting underwhelming French Prospects up near the Canadian border.

The Knicks extended one of the worst streaks of draft failures when they didn't re-sign a 23-year-old fan favorite

Image

  • The Knicks renounced the free-agent rights to the 2017 first-round draft pick Frank Ntilikina.
  • The Knicks have not re-signed their past 18 first-round picks to a second, multiyear contract.
  • Ntilikina's defense and potential won over many fans, but he was never consistent with the Knicks.

The New York Knicks this week continued a long-running, odious streak of discarding first-round draft picks.

The Knicks renounced the free-agent rights to Frank Ntilikina, the eighth overall pick in the 2017 draft. While the Knicks could technically still re-sign him - they needed to create cap space for other moves - it looks as though both sides are going to move on.

Dating back to the 1994 draft, when the Knicks took point guard Charlie Ward 26th overall, the Knicks have not re-signed a first-round draft pick to a multiyear deal. Ntilikina is the 18th first-round pick who did not stay with the team long-term.

(The Knicks did re-sign David Lee, their first-round pick in 2005, but only to a one-year deal. They sent him to the Golden State Warriors in a sign-and-trade the following offseason.)

Ntilikina was the final draft pick of Phil Jackson, who was fired a week later after taking a guard he saw as an ideal fit for his triangle offense. Amazingly, Ntilikina went on to become the longest-tenured Knick on last year's squad.

His rookie-year highlights included harassing Kyrie Irving and James Harden into flat-out giving up the ball.

One of the loudest ovations in Madison Square Garden from 2017 to 2019 came when Ntilikina stripped Luka Doncic of the ball, then dived to the ground to recover it.

Read on Twitter

Over four seasons with the Knicks, Ntilikina never averaged more than seven points per game. He has shot 36% from the field for his career. He shot 19% from inside the 3-point line last season.

But the defensive-minded Ntilikina never found a consistent role under the notoriously defense-first Tom Thibodeau - a bad sign for the 23-year-old's future. In the playoffs, when the Knicks desperately needed a long, ball-hawking guard to slow down Trae Young, Ntilikina essentially got one shot - on the last possession of Game 1, where he got burned by Young for the game-winning floater. Ntilikina played just four total minutes in the series.

Despite these ups and downs, Ntilikina supporters remained a vocal bunch: Fans frequently chanted his name at MSG or gave him loud ovations when he checked in.

Now Ntilikina is a free agent, likely looking at taking a minimum deal on a contender in need of some youth or a rebuilding team searching for a hidden gem. He could also play overseas.

Keep an eye on Detroit and Memphis. Both teams have too many guaranteed contracts. They need to fix that. Sources say Grizzlies small forwards Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson are available for the right price. The Pistons are expected to look at dumping either Jahlil Okafor or 2019 No. 15 pick Sekou Doumbouya.

Nerlens Noel files lawsuit against Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul

Nerlens Noel has filed a massive lawsuit against Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul, as broken by Darren Heitner of Sports Agent Blog.

According to the article, Noel alleges that Paul misled and neglected him when he was a client of Klutch Sports. Before even developing an official partnership, Paul told Noel in 2017 — at a Ben Simmons birthday party, no less — that Noel "was a 100 million dollar man," which led to Noel not only leaving then-agent Happy Walters and signing with Paul, but also turning down a 4-year, $70 million offer from the Dallas Mavericks to accept a qualifying offer. When Noel battled injuries the following season, his perceived value cratered. But according to the accusations, Paul never tried to redeem his client.

“During the free agent season which began on July 1, 2018, and after Noel’s one-year contract with Dallas expired, neither Paul nor anyone at Klutch Sports presented any real proposals to Noel in terms of strategies or ideas on how Noel might secure a long-term contract or even a significant contract for the following season,” states the allegations. “Indeed, as the 2018 NBA free agent season began, no real offers or deals were presented to Noel on the first day of free agency.”

Noel alleges that multiple teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers, all reached out to Paul with interest in discussing contract opportunities. They never made contact, and from 2018-2020, Noel signed short-term deals worth $5 million or less with the Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks.

Heitner also writes, "Noel finally terminated his relationship with Paul and Klutch Sports in December 2020 and says that the final straw was Noel learning that Paul 'had a history of mismanaging and ignoring other clients and costing them significant money.' He believed that Paul and Klutch Sports were only focused on serving their marquee clients, and did not have the capacity to serve Noel as well as players such as Norris Cole or Shabazz Muhammad."
