Re: Neto Returns! (Shams)
Now if they could re-sign Matthews, they would have a lot of 3-point shooting on the bench at least.

Re: Neto Returns! (Shams)
With Neto on a veteran minimum salary, we are at 13 players & less than $2m below the tax. We are also without any of Mathews, Gill, Todd, Homesley, or Winston.
Assume that we make Homesley & Winston 2-way players & put Todd on the regular roster -- he would be the cheapest add -- we are at 14 players & $1m below the luxury tax. No Mathews or Gill & no ability to retain either of them while staying under the tax.
If we want to retain both Gill & Mathews, we'll need to trade someone before the season begins. If we are prepared to let Gill go, we can retain Mathews, but we'll be over the tax & need to trade someone by the deadline.

In effect, this means that we are definitely planning to move one or both of Kuzma & Harrell.

Re: Neto Returns! (Shams)
I'd rather keep Matthews than Gill. Gill came in a bit towards the end, but he strikes me as maxing out at replacement level. Matthews' shooting and passable D make him a legitimate NBA player.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

PIF. Why wouldn’t Todd be one of our two way guys?
I do hope we can keep both Gill and Matthews… two of my favorite players from last year. Gill, especially, produced pretty much every time he got a sniff.
In Rizzo we trust

Homesley is a non-guaranteed contract. That's 1.5m if he's cut.

I think Homesley does have a guarantee, $20,000 bucks.

Todd could be one of our 2 way guys -- unusual for a guy picked so high, but so what...? I included him on the roster only b/c he would come the cheapest -- i.e. to leave the most room for completing the roster.
But, once I realized that the tax situation is calculated at the end of the season it became clear that this wasn't much of an issue -- we must be planning to move someone by the trade deadline. In fact, Tommy has said he wants to move Davis....
Anyway, things are moving so fast... who knows what's next!?!?

Yup, that's not a joke - he has 20k guaranteed. https://www.spotrac.com/nba/washington-wizards/caleb-homesley-70756/

Re: Neto Returns! (Shams)
Neto coming back is great news. He became one of my favorite players last year. He is ultimately more of an undersized SG but he arguably has the highest bball IQ on this team. He can play alongside any of the guards
It would be foolish to sign Todd to a 2 way. I'd rather give him a 4 year deal, guaranteeing year 1 and getting 3 cheap unguaranteed years on the backend for a total of 4 years, something similar to what the Bulls did with Gafford

I would definitely... not say definitely - though it's certainly possible. As I've said before, I don't think Mathews is returning.

They don't need to move both it looks like I think.

The trade back to the 2nd round gives a little more flexibility under the cap. We were potentially so tight against the cap that the $2m+ due to the 22nd pick (Rookie scale for 1RP) could make it harder to maneuver. We'd be stuck paying a guy even if they were not ready to play.
With the trade down we picked up a back up PG with upside and some value (currently suppressed from a fluke year, and depressed coach). He costs us only 2.3m, and with the trade down we get flexibility to structure Isaiah Todd's contract in whatever way works. If we want to put him on a 2-way we can do so. He will need seasoning in the G-League anyway.

Re: Neto Returns! (Shams)
Another great move. Tons of PG depth all of the sudden. Neto is even a good spot starter. High character, plays extremely hard. Love it

Re: Neto Returns! (Shams)
For sure thought Scott Brooks would try to lure Neto to a new team.
