Line 'em up Troy!

Fits into the time line where Grant, KO and CoJo all expire at the same time while giving us full Bird Rights on Lee.

Well played to our FO. I almost bought it

Should extend Hayes, Bey, Stewart then or move on from them. Qualifying offer is 2024 but if they’re keepers or assets you don’t wait until then.

He was signed under Non-Bird rights, so his contract won't count against cap room. Under this exception, teams can only go %120 above the minimum.

Yes, outside of the Pistons players, I'd be curious if Weaver is looking that far ahead to target anyone in particular that he either wanted in previous drafts or anyone thinks would fit well with this group.

Obviously it all depends on how the current guys develop but it's always good to think ahead.

I believe they changed that rule after the Pistons were unable to match Utahs offer for Mehmet Okur. Basically allowing teams to go a higher amount to resign their own RFAs.

$1.67 million is the minimum salary for a 2nd year player for the 21-22 season so I would expect this deal to be worth about $6 million over 3 seasons.

Was Kevin Durant headed to Syracuse?
The eyebrow-raiser of the night came when Boeheim intimated Kevin Durant could have ended up playing for Syracuse had assistant coach Troy Weaver never left to take a job with the Utah Jazz following the 2003-04 season.

Weaver was a recruiting maven in the Baltimore-D.C., area and recruited Anthony to Syracuse. Weaver had mentioned in the chat that many in the region thought Anthony would go to Maryland, as the Terrapins recently won a national championship in 2002.

Durant was still a young high school player at the time, but Weaver was well-aware of him. It’s impossible to say whether Durant would have signed with Syracuse, but having Weaver on staff likely would have helped in the recruitment.

Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant has been working out daily at a facility in his hometown of Washington, D.C., and eagerly wanted to make the roster. Coming into the week, Ford had let Grant know he was one of three or four players being considered for the last spots after Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden withdrew because of a hamstring injury.

Colangelo called Wednesday morning with the official offer, which Grant immediately accepted. When he told his mother, Beverly, that he had made the Olympic Team, her tears quickly followed.

A factor in the choice was Durant and Lillard lobbying Popovich on Grant's behalf, sources said. In the end, having the legendary coach and his willingness to be collaborative with the team's superstars might've been the most powerful recruiting tool Team USA had working.

KD is close to Jerami Grant and helped him get on the USA team. Weaver has been close to KD for years, recruiting him to Syracuse when KD was in high school and both are from Washington DC/Maryland area, a place we know Weaver loves to get players from. Weaver was a big part of drafting KD once he got to the NBA.

KD to Detroit 2023 confirmed.
