Deservedly so.
If we wanted to save 2 million we could have either shaved a little off the deals we just gave out or just cut Vildoza.

But I don't think it was about saving 2 million. I think it was about assets for a superstar. Not sure if that happens.
You don't do that from this last draft, just too strong.

It was about not paying two first round rookies salaries when they didn’t have to and already a high chance that they one first round rookie was going to struggle finding minutes in the rotation . We took the guys we wanted at the cheapest available slots where we felt they could still be had. Picked up future assets in the process. Nothing more nothing less

Watch those picks between #19 and #23 over the next few months and years.
If any of those turn out as good as MANY of us feel, then we didn't use our assets and scouts well.
So, it might be more and not less.

I hope this means that the Knicks will let Elfrid Payton or Frank Ntilikina walk. They've already got Rose and Quickley, and now Kemba.

I like either Payton or Ntilikina on a one year deal. Payton, in particular, played very well for the Knicks last year.

I hear you but Kemba is bit more dynamic than Derek Harper. Cam Payne is more of Harper style.
Anyway, Kemba Walker & Derek Rose.. better than Mark Jackson & Rod Strickland?

Everyone at their peak, Rose and Walker blows Jackson and hot Rod out the water. Also Jackson and Strickland never was going to be able to co-exist as both were heading into their prime. Rose and Walker I think can co-exist.

Presti doesn't buy out Kemba, Kemba doesn't come home. you want to give them credit for something they didn't plan? :clown:

Come on! Of course Presti and Kemba were involved. But Rose and Co. were well involved via Kemba's agent as to the timing, the money and committment from Kemba to the Knicks and vis-versa.

Why do you refeuseto give the Knicks front office some credit, Jezzzus.

You're just speculating in order to give credit to Leon when you have no factual reason to believe that. How could Leon have conceivably influenced Kemba's buyout from OKC?

Btw, let me remind you that I'm the only person here who has had personal and direct confrontational business interaction with Leon that went on for over a year.

It's a simple inference based off announcement of OKC buy out and Knicks signing at the same time. It's probably correct. There's back channel communication through agents. You have no reason to believe the business interaction would be illegal. It must happen all the time. Kemba wanted to be a Knick and nobody saw it coming. Leon Rose and Sam Presti probably had a better idea than you or I.

Sure. Kemba wanted to come to the Knicks. Do you really think Leon work some magic to make this happen? It was the most natural fit of any free agency move this off season.

Look, I’m happy with this off season so far. I think we’ve improved the team without making any of the dumb moves of the past, see e.g. McDyess, Melo, Bargnani. That said, Leon and WWW were advertised as having all the connections to bring in The Big Kahunas. Clearly, they are not that … yet.

i wouldn't say magic, but it was important for leon/knicks to have enough cap space to drive this. OKC is not as interested in the buyout if they are basically paying the whole salary. knicks eating a chunk of it makes OKC willing to cut their losses. there would have to have been another interested team willing to do this for OKC to have choice in going this route. otherwise, they might have held out for a different kind of asset trade.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

Starting to think that some of the Kemba hate is coming from closet Elfrid supporters that KNOW they better not support Elfrid on this forum

Yea, it worked both ways. Kemba left money on the table and agreed to the buyout knowing the Knicks would sign him. It took all 3 of the Kemba, OKC, and Knicks to make it happen and they had worked this out ahead of time.

Bye Knox

The Knicks say Kevin Knox II (health and safety protocols) will not participate in the Las Vegas Summer League.
In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

I'll be honest. I lost interest in the Knicks for a while. They were too bad for too long, but they began to get my interest again last year with the strong finish and playoffs, even though they lost rather convincingly, it was nice to see them get there.

I haven't visited this board in a while, but the moves today inspired me to come back and do some reading.

Oh My God! Luv those Knicks! Your Back!

You were one of my Favorite posters in the early 2000s

I still remember a back and forth heated debate between you & Me regarding Vin Baker during the 03 season

You gotta stick around keep posting Brother, your BB & IQ knowledge is impeccable

Thank you sir. OMG, I haven't thought about Vin Baker in like a decade.

Let me guess. I believed in him and you didn't, and you were right, I was wrong. I don't remember, but I'm guessing that's how the debate went.

I remember believing in him for some reason.

My knowledge isn't what it used to be. I used to watch every game. I used to know pretty much every player in the league, now it's like, someone says "We signed this guy" and I have to look them up.

Remember when Pat Riley benched Doug Christie for 2 years, and not long after he left, he became a useful 6th man. That was such a waste. That was probably before RealGM, but it stuck in my mind for some reason.

I'll try to stick around though. Nice to see you.

I could be wrong here, but it seems to be

1) if the Knicks talk to OKC - it's not tampering. Teams can talk to other teams.

2) if OKC talks to Kemba, it's not tampering. Teams can talk to other players.

but if the Knicks talked to Kemba, that's tampering.

If OKC is the go between then everything is kosher. This only works if OKC is willing to work with the Knicks and do a little work for them. I'm sure OKC would have preferred to do a trade, get more in return, but they got cash, which is something. Not a lot, but something.
