Re: Official Celtics 2021 Off-Season Thread
We worked out former UCONN star Jalen Adams the other day:
He averaged over 20 PPG this past season, only played in 7 games though:
https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Jalen-Adams/International/73153/2021/By_Season/Per_Game/0
So that means these highlights are only from 7 games which makes them even more impressive:
Clearly the C's are taking a close look at overseas players (Jalen Adams, Nigel Hayes, Zach Auguste, Yam Madar, Juhann Begarin)

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Not sure how good we'll be (5-7 seed probably) but I'm pretty certain I'll have a lot more fun watching us this season with Horford and Kanter back. Richardson (and Dunn if kept) being pests on defence will be fun with Smart (if kept).
If we had of signed Mills or Ball I would have been ecstatic. Would still like Green.

If we can get Green to sign for a cheap 1 yr deal, that's a solid move. Getting up there in age but at 34 should still have at least 1 more good yr left. Even at age 33 this past season he shot 40% from 3 and had a BPM of +1.5. Dude is a winner, has won 3 rings with 3 different teams. 2 of those rings coming in the last 3 yrs. And last yr was on the no. 1 seed Sixers. Career 40.1% shooter from 3. you know some of our young guys (especially Nesmith) could learn a thing or two from him.

Sadly he re-signed for 2/20 which is more money and years we would/should have. Ah well.

We are basically throwing out a reboot of the 2017 playoff team. Al, Brown, Tatum and Smart are 3 years older. Rozier replaced with JRich, Baynes with Kanter, and Theis with RW. Instead of Morris, Shane Larkin and Semi we now have Grant, Pritchard, Langford and Nesmith.
The competition is vastly superior now as Nets are an elite team and Bucks, Sixers and Heat are better than the 2-5 teams were then.
That said, this team could be really tough defensively and a team nobody really wants to play. We could surprise everybody if Langford and Nesmith emerge the way Rozier did in 2017 and if Payton, Grant, RW progress the way we have hoped they would.
Ultimately, it depends on how much Big Al has left in the tank and how good Tatum and Brown can be as the team leaders.
We have spent the last 3 seasons counting on established stars like Hayward, Kyrie and Kemba and they came up a lot shorter than the young bucks did in 2017. It’s depressing to consider a bridge year but maybe their is more to hope for counting on the young talent. In 2017, that team of young studs almost shocked the NBA but blew it in game 7 to Lebron. With Kyrie and Hayward set to return it appeared the Celtics were going to leave the Bucks and Raptors behind them for 3-4 years only to see those teams win titles.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Re: Official Celtics 2021-22 Off-Season Thread
I think starters are:
Smart, Richardson, Brown, Tatum and Timelord
Starting Timelord gets his head in the game from tipoff, and keeps Horford fresher longer. We did move guys around last season so Timelord could start, even if it was also cost cutting. Richardson and Smart are both best in a passing offense, and both do it well.
2nd team:
Pritchard, Langford, Nesmith, G. Will and Horford
Pritchard and Langford have ball handling skills, Langford has the drives to the hoop and all are a threat from 3 to some extent.
Deep bench:
Well, here is where it gets interesting. We have, right now, Edwards, Parker, Kanter and Thompson. Thompson is said to be going out and replaced with Dunn and Fernando. Kanter was just signed, which I think was a smart move. We also have Hauser as one of our 2-ways. This should not be a finished product, because I expect to see Madar and Nigel Hayes to come on board. I still feel that Edwards needs to go. Really, all / any of Edwards, Dunn, Parker and Fernando can be moved. Question is will they be.

Ok well then let's sign Lou Williams and Aldridge

True. More minutes for our young guys. I think Begarin will be in Europe this season. But the other 4 guys - I'm all for giving them more minutes - if we keep developing them they could all be really solid players.

Re: Official Celtics 2021-22 Off-Season Thread
There is a lot of talk in the media about how the Celtics are being cheap or how they are taking a big chance risking so much by waiting for free agency next year. I too am frustrated we are in this position but honestly, what were the other options?
Sign Fournier and extend RW and Smart? Then go way over cap using TPEs and picks to get guys like Green, Gay, Etc? Yeah this season might be better but that is the path teams like the Jazz and Blazers seem to take every year without ever getting beyond second round of playoffs.
I think that once Kemba got hurt it changed everything. An overpay to Fournier locking in our team’s cap situation only made sense if he was “the missing piece”. I don’t think he is good enough be the final piece next to the Jays. If we had the Jays and Lillard, maybe he would have been.
Right now, we need one of Langford, Nesmith, PP to become a Fournier level player or at least good enough to trade for a player like that to be the missing piece if and when we land a third wheel next off season.
I don’t like where we are right now when you consider the talent on roster just years ago.....but I think the course correction the Celtics are making is necessary. There is little margin for error a d frankly little chance of success too barring inside info that a star will come or a shocking development into a star from one of our young players.

I have no issue with their current plan. The goal should be to try to grab a third top talent around Tatum/Brown, not trade Brown for an upgrade as we'd still not be a favorite. Brad is fixing Danny's mess. It's been clear for a while that Danny was incapable of digging himself out of the hole due to his reliance on trying to guarantee a win with every trade.

I think also that all the players, the younger ones in particular, can all make some type of improvement.
Doesn't necessarily have to be just one, turning into that 3rd star.

Plus Wyc gets a chance to turn a pretty good profit this year and the next couple after Beal stays in Washington by kicking the can down the road. So thats a positive!

With how good they both are at only age 20 and 23 respectively and still getting better, still just scratching the surface of their potential - we'll have to agree to disagree.
