Who knows what Beal's tweet was about, but Leonsis quote amounts to calling out Westbrook over a lack of loyalty and it's particularly tone def when you consider it in the context of Wall being jettisoned.

I think Ted's real intention there was to subtley bring out the view that the NHL has a better working model than the NBA - and hoping others eventually feel that way and try to incorporate NHL values into the NBA CBA. What he seemed to fail to see was that he was insulting NBA players - particularly Westbrook - but also Beal - who has shown loyalty to him - so far.

Subtlety does not seem to be an Uncle Ted strength. Plus, he better be willing to buy some second rounders in the next several years because Fred Katz is reporting that the Lakers are getting a third second round pick, 2023 Chicago pick, making five second rounders in total traded in the deals plus a potential second round pick swap.

The only trade scenarios I see in the short term would be one sending either Kuzma or Bertans away for cap space. I suppose Kuzma might have some value at the moment, so if we can dump him to say, Minnesota, and get some 2nd round picks in the process, I'd be open minded. But other than that, I'd probably sit tight on trades for now.

Bertans' trade value is low because of his subpar season. The best scenario might be to showcase him early in the year while Kispert is buried on the bench. Then hopefully Bertans can be moved for expirings and 2nds, and then we can move Kispert into the rotation.

Perhaps Leonsis sees it as praising Alex Ovechkin. Maybe he thinks Ovechkin could have asked out sooner given some of the playoff struggles and coaching blunders that the Caps have had in the past. The analogy is not one that is going to be taken well so Leonsis could have kept quiet about it in the short term.

Maybe he's just remarking on how you can and cannot build teams, comparing hockey and the superteam basketball era.

I think it would be a mistake to trade anyone right now. They finally have depth with a lot of solid pieces. Start the season, see which player meshes with the core, and only then trade whoever you feel does not fit the mold. We can assume which player is better on paper, but until they all play together it'd be premature to trade a piece which can help them in the future.

This makes a lot of sense. I want to see how Kuz and Harrell fit in. The only player I might consider trading sooner rather than later is Bertans, primarily to get rid of his hefty salary.

I think Bertans' value is going to recover given how he closed the season, assuming he comes into this season in shape https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bertada01/gamelog/2021#310-331-sum:pgl_basic

He actually closed the 2019-20 season in similar fashion before receiving that contract https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bertada01/gamelog/2021#310-331-sum:pgl_basic

Generally speaking, the only time to trade guys for cap space is in the offseason. It costs picks to unload salary midseason. So if a good Kuzma deal is available now, take it. It is unlikely that such a deal would be available at the Trade Deadline.

I'd hardly call getting a 2nd round pick a "good deal". Not so long ago, Laker fans were hailing Kuzma as their savior. If he somehow regains his former form, they may have gotten a steal.

Kuzma from his first couple of seasons would be a nice bench piece, still not that good. Doesn’t rebound, not efficient. His only skills are being a solid defender and making some 3s. We have plenty of depth at the 4 to not really need him.

Have to admit, he really does.

Hey, we could have gotten Durant! (Well, no, probably we couldn't but if you think Beal is a special snowflake . . . . )

If there's a good deal for any of Hachimura, Bertans, Kuzma, or Harrell that reflects their peak, healthy value, take it. But realistically, you wouldn't want to dump Rui for cap space and a 2nd. Which of the other 3 would you dump for partial (not full) salary relief and a 2nd?

Well we have a log game at the 4 and 5 especially with out pick ups in the draft and our summer league prospects I would move bertans if there is a team out there who thinks he's useful

I'd dump Bertans or Kuzma for a late 1st/high 2nd and an expiring contract. I don't think Bertans would generate such an offer at the moment, but Kuzma might.

Fun fact: my shoe is in this clip. That's one of my good friends that he was high-fiving right before the more well-known portion of the video.

I agree with the DCZ and WS. There is no need to be in a rush to make a trade.
The Wizards shoukd have drafted Derik Queen

The biggest difference between Kuzma the first two years and Kuzma the last two years of the presence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis and the fact that Kuzma does not get 20 field goal attempt anymore.

Opportunity

Role

I would start Kuzma a small forward because he can defend that position if he can get his shot off. I would play him to get his numbers up because he might be a very good trade piece.

Dinwiddie
Beal
Kuzma
Hachimura
Bryant

Five out with all five players having good mobility and three point range.

The reason to start Bryant is he is the best rebounder on the team. He can hit a three. He has a good office of Center who can run the court if healthy.

Kuzma and Bryant have already been teammates.

I told you so :banghead:
