A big part of those financial struggles were due to paying Leo Messi though. It’s still Barcelona. They’ll sell off a couple of players, reset, and buy a new crop. They won’t be down long.

He's a prick. Del Piero, Nedved, Trezeguet, Camoranesi and Buffon stayed in Juventus even when the club was sent to Seria B, yet Messi is looking for more money than the club heavily hit by Covid can give him, the same club that basically paid his therapy when he was a kid and saved his career.

I'm not surprised, never liked the guy.

In a way it frees the club up to pursue a wider range of players and coaches without having to worry about how they fit with Messi too. Not that losing a legend is ever a good thing but I do think they’ve been trapped in a box a little bit the last several years.

I'm glad instead of a Super League happening at least there are some slight consequences for big teams spending big and losing their bets.

Hell they don't need all of soccer to support their payrolls, and if they fall another can actually rise up and take there place and... gasp it'll be far more interesting of a sport for the fan and everyone else except for a few rich people.

Another over-32yo shooter on a vet minimum to the Lakers detected.
Though LeBron might block this signing as it will make him, LeBron, only a second best selling shirt on the team

Dont think so, he will probably be on Manchester City to reunite with Pep Guardiola

Not a chance in hell. MLS doesn't even have a fraction of the money as some of these European clubs.

I don't know, I think if all the teams combined to chip in, they could manage to cover his signing bonus and get him to suit up for a game.

It's going to be very strange watching Messi in another uni. Here's hoping it's PSG...

And honestly it would be fantastic if he comes over to the MLS for a year or two when he's done being a top 5 player in the world.

They just spent 100m on Jack Grealish. City have the funds. But I think PSG is the favorite here.

I think hes got too much left in the tank to come to the MLS, currently.

You guys don't know how was his next contract with Barcelona to try to scam the system?. The two first seasons of the contract he was going to play for Barcelona and after that he was going to play in USA with Barcelona still paying him. He left because Messi has to pay the taxes of all the contract in Spain and for La Liga and tax authorities that's illegal. Well and first of all because Barcelona has a lot of millions of debt and they can't sign him in La Liga until they have the accounts healthy again

He is a washed player since like 2-3 years ago

Good. Time for a change of scenery for him. Prove yourself elsewhere. Who’ll be interesting to see where he ends up. Somewhere in the EPL hopefully. Chelsea perhaps?

Probably not a good thing for a club to sign a 550 mil Euro deal with 200 mil in bonus. Greedy ass****.

I really hate to see this. But Barca effed up for years now regarding their finances. But Messi and Barca is like Timmy and the Spurs or Kobe and the Lakers. I really really hate to see this. I'm guessing Man City or PSG right? I guess the silver lining is him being reunited with either Neymar or Pep.

Ah that's a bummer either way

No MLS team can offer the type of money that a club like PSG (Paris) or Manchester City will throw at him. He still might come over (States) in a few years. But he's still very good. Even at age 34.

PSG will likely sign him to a massive deal.

Yup...The Money Messi will demand will be more than any MLS's team whole payroll...by far. And It's really not even close.
