Mavs Should Trade For Kevin Love
The Mavs should trade for Kevin Love.
The Mavs currently need another stretch big, and Kevin Love has proven he can do just that. He's old, injury prone, has regressed, and has a big contract, but those are also reasons that make him expendable to the Cavs. That's the way the Mavs gotta think too, because that's how they built up the team for their 2006 and 2011 Finals runs. They found treasure in other team's garbage. Not that KLove is garbage, but those are the reasons why the Cavs would want to trade him, but when healthy, KLove is still a decently effective player. He can shoot, rebound a little, and playmake, especially as an outlet pass or break starter. He also has playoff and championship experience and would give the Mavs the veteran leadership they desire. His contract is only for 2 more years too, so it'll be over quickly, and if the Mavs trade Powell, Redick (sign and trade), and then fillers (prospect, bench player, draft pick, or cash), then they should pull the trigger.
Luka/Brunson/Burke/Terry
THJ/Brown
DFS/Bullock/Green
Kleber/KLove
KP/WCS/Boban/Moses
And if Dragic gets bought out, then the Mavs can sign him. That could also open the door for the Mavs to make another trade since they would have a lot of PG and C depth.
That's a solid team tbh. It's not as strong as some of the other teams out there, but it's better than last year and that's how they need to think. They just have to improve.

God no. Thats insane. He is a combined worst contract worst player in the league atm. Would get more out of resigning Bey. He is done and makes as much as KP. There is no way we can want that. And cleveland wouldnt want to pay the price, they cant pay like 3 1sts when they tank anyway

After almost asking to be on the USA Olympic team, the powers that be said OK. Shortly thereafter they discovered Love was completely out of shape and unready to participate. They dropped him immediately.
How do you finish an NBA season and become "out-of-shape" in a few short weeks?

Absolutely not. I'm not sure if there's a worse player to trade for when you consider contract and what positives they can actually provide.

Kleber is a better shooter then Love. And immensely better defensively as well.

Honestly, KLove's the better shooter. Give him Maxi's role and he'd thrive. KLove's been a #1-3 for a long time, but with the Mavs he might be the #4 after Luka, KP, and THJ. Even if he's the #3 behind Luka and KP, that still means more catch-and-shoot 3s, which will elevate his shooting numbers. That's all Maxi is tbh. Catch and shoot. KLove has to actually create some of the offense in Cleveland, and had to do that in Minny too.

Playing with Luka would help him out a lot tbh.

He can still rebound, pass, and shoot the 3. The Mavs could use the some of that for sure, especially rebounding and floor spacing from their bigs. Last year, if Kleber or KP was not on the floor, the spacing was OFFFFFFFFF. That's why they need another stretch big.

Age and injuries. He has the offseason to get back into shape. A lot of guys have to do that tbh. Dirk had to get back into shape each and every offseason tbh. That's what Holger was for.

Sure maybe he was a better shooter before, but now its arguable and I would side with Maxi. Maxi pre-covid was shooting the lights out and even with all his struggles after, he STILL finished at 41% from 3 for the year. Was it all catch n shoot? Sure but let's not act like Love was creating his 3s. Most of his were kick out, catch and shoots too.
I think the only way the Mavs would be interested in Love is if he came with Sexton. Love's contract is arguably the worst in the NBA and his skillset is no longer unique enough to forgive his terrible defense.

Mavs trade Powell, Redick (sign and trade), and then fillers
So Mavs trade away Powell, Redick, and fillers for KLove and maybe a draft pick.
Basically the trade boils down to Powell for KLove. That's fine.

KLove's defense can be good at times, but he's older now.

As for Maxi vs. KLove, you gotta take into consideration the different systems and spacing. KLove had to play with Drummond and Jarrett Allen. They don't space the floor. KP at least spaces the floor and opens it up for others. Then you got Luka vs. Sexton and Garland. No contest. Luka wins that all day. Lower KLove's volume and he prolly shoots above 40% too.
But the trade I proposed doesn't even involve Kleber. It involves Powell, so that's the comparison we need to be looking at tbh.
KLove's a better shooter than Powell. Hands down.

Honestly, he's injury prone and breaking down, yes, but he can still spot up, pass, and rebound a little.
Cavs might be willing to throw in a protected first round pick to get rid of him, but if the Mavs give them Dwight Powell in return, then they are getting a "bad" contract back too.
If the Mavs can get Sexton in the trade, then that's perfect, but ionno how they can possibly do that. They'd have to give up Brunson for sure, and prolly guys like Josh Green, Tyrell Terry, and Moses Brown too.

Re: Mavs Should Trade For Kevin Love
Mavs are adding at least 45 million dollars in the summer of 2022, they will be luck to be below the 147 million which should be the 2nd level tax rate, and Cuban since 2011 hasn't spent and doesn't look like he's willing to, so every dollar counts, especially 30 million dollars on a guy who barely gets 5 in the open market.

Do you even watch basketball? You can't be serious....This guy has not only injury problems but mental problems aswell. He's bad for the locker room and plays few games per year. And you want to pay him 30M per? Jesus man...
