I'm trying to figure out how to make a Lari deal possible with us committing the rest of our remaining cap space to Oubre.
There are a lot of estimates floating around but *in theory* they could still pick up Lauri if moves are ordered as followed:

1. Enter free agency with 12 contracts + Graham's cap hold
2. Use cap space to sign Oubre/trade for Plumlee
3. Use Graham in sign-and-trade to acquire Lauri at similar money
4. Sign Ish to Room MLE

The numbers - and roster spaces - get tight, so we're gonna need either a trade or a couple cuts to make it all work.

I'm convinced you work for a front office. If not you should.

I was thinking last night it would be funny if we landed the 3 main remaining FA's who have been left out in the cold (Schröder, Oubre, Markkanen) to super cheap $5mil dollar 1 year "show me" contracts because they had become desperate with the market drying up:

Ball - Schröder - Smith
Rozier - Bouknight - Martin #1
Hawyard - Oubre - Martin #2
Bridges - Washington - Markkanen
Plumlee - Carey - Jones

Obviously not going to happen now with the reports of Oubre getting $13mil a year, but it would have been hilarious if it shook out that way.

I'd replace one of the Martins with Thor.

I wonder if Love was bought out if the FO would have any interest in bringing him in on the (very) cheap?

Ish + Oubre + Lari + Plumlee would be a very impressive haul given our cap constraints this summer.

What cap contraints?

We had more free cap space than 85% of the league.

Well...ya know...the majority of the league had $0 in cap space, so that's not all that impressive.

We functionally had $25M in space (including the room exception). That's a very decent haul for that amount of space. Obviously Lari hasn't happened yet and we'll see what other maneuvering is necessary.

While that may be the case, it further reinforces the value of a clean cap sheet and maintaining room to even make deals like this possible. That, in and of itself, is commendable

On one hand, I agree with you.

On the other hand, anyone can see the framework and motivation there. Chicago has NO space to sign all the guys they've inked, so they need to do something, GSW clearly wants cap space to use on bringing in vets to help their push, and we (and NO) are motivated to bring in guys we want.

Tons of moving pieces, but if you squint your eyes, spin around 3 times, and stand on one leg facing northwest at 285*, then you can see the faint outline of a deal taking shape.

Completely agree. As someone who in the past has said keep everyone and use the exception to improve, if we land Lari then this offseason has been a masterclass in cap navigation, keeping options open, and not overinvesting in fringe home grown talent.

Here's a fun idea from the T&T board:

gobullschi wrote:LaMelo Ball / Ish Smith
Kelly Oubre / James Bouknight
Gordon Hayward / Miles Bridges
Lauri Markkanen / Jaden McDaniels / Kai Jones
Myles Turner / Vernon Carey / Nick Richards

IMO, this is the best offseason the Hornets can hope for. It’s ready to compete, but also filled with a bunch of young, high upside talent.

Turn DeVonte Graham sign and trade into a three-way deal where the Hornets get Markkanen.

Then flip Washington + Rozier for Myles Turner.

I could see this, but with Mason Plumlee backing up Myles and Richards being sent out as part of the deal.

The ultra deep rotation:

Melo - Ish - Riller
Oubre - Bouknight - Martin
Hayward - McDaniels - Thor
Markkanen - Bridges - Jones
Turner - Plumlee - Carey

I'm not a fan of a Ball Oubre backcourt even if it means getting Turner. I think Oubre is a significant downgrade from Rozier especially from a shooting standpoint. I think Indiana would happily do that deal though.
