[Stein] Dallas Has Tried To Trade For Goran Dragic But Toronto Has Resisted

The Raptors might ultimately trade Goran Dragić after completing their sign-and-trade deal with Miami that will send Kyle Lowry to the Heat, but they have resisted external interest in Dragić thus far, league sources say. Dallas, I’m told, is among the teams that has tried to acquire him via trade and remains interested in acquiring Dragić after missing out on Lowry. Toronto appears to have other plans for now — which certainly don’t include buying him out. In the wake of Dragić’s emotional Miami exit, Dallas is obviously an appealing destination since it would team him with his fellow Slovenian Luka Dončić.

The thing with Masai is he is very patient until he gets what he wants. Very good chance we just keep Dragic until he gets an offer he likes. Dragic can just sit at home like Al Horford if he refuses to play for us.

its that or take on dead money for no season, at least with this we get the option of someone trading for him at the deadline if he performs.

This can’t possibly be true….can it? Why would we want to keep a 36yr old combo guard who doesn’t potentially want to be here. This is posturing on our side to increase the return for sure.

Good. Dallas thinks they can get him for their dead contracts just cause we want to move him. If they want to improve their team, they gotta pay up.

We’ll likely get decent offers at the deadline from contenders so no point moving him just for the sake of moving him. We can give him the Iggy treatment like the Grizzlies until the deadline and still get pieces for him

with what cap room? doncic supermax kicks in next summer, they will have to trade for him or get him for an exemption.

and potentially waste a season, go ask how its went for 76ers.

plus masai at the deadline showed he isnt going to buckle, all leverage with mavs is with raptors.

Good, this means we won't trade him for Dallas' garbage. Perhaps we can find a trade for a talented player on a big deal where we combine Dragic+Boucher's expirings.

at this point Dallas offering us to take 2 yrs of Powell and I am guessing Raps don’t want to do that. Especially after all the decent FAs are gone

They can probably find a taker towards the trade deadline for 2nd rd pick or picks and not commit cap space beyond next season by doing so

Masai doing Masai kind of things. If Miami has to pony up some extra asset if Dragic isn't traded, but there is some interest from teams in acquiring him, then take the extra asset from Miami, because you can trade Dragic later for another asset. Why settle for 1 when you can have 2?

I see no reason we cant start the season with him. We only have a 3 guard rotation atm and 2 of them are fairly unproven in their roles (GTJ as a starter or Flynn as a rotation piece)

This is a pawn move. Negotiations 101.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I'd keep him, injuries happen and some team will be desperate. Give him some burn and he can put on decent numbers.

Get extra compensation from MIA, ask Dragic to sit home for two months, trade Dragic to a desperate team for additional assets, profit.

We’re just playing chicken with Dallas. If Dallas is not going to cough up some decent assets then fine we will keep him. If they really want him that bad then prove it

Return to Toronto Raptors
