Yeah I like that idea. House could definitely help Chicago and Markkanen makes sense for Houston and you are getting him a paycheck bigger than the MLE which he should probably consider a win now.

My only concern on any of this is what his minimum ask would be to sign a multiyear deal versus just playing out the QO or taking a 1+PO for somebody's MLE. I'd go as high as 4/$60M though I'd prefer 3 years and for a bit less. But if that's what it took I'm willing to gamble.

If he was willing to come to Cleveland on a 1+PO MLE as a back-up stretch PF I'd easily give him that. Not sure what we'd have to send to Chicago, probably at most a 2nd or 2 since he doesn't want to be there anyways, but man the Cavs could use a shooter like that. Heck if he could even play some minutes at SF could you imagine an line-up with 3 7' footers in a big line-up?

I'm perfectly fine with Love and Wade filling the stretch big role.

Love's never healthy and Wade has potential to be a bench stretch PF, but he's not there yet. If the Cavs want to take the next step they need someone that's more ready to contribute this season and Lauri would provide them with immediately bench shooting and would work with either of Mobley or Allen off the bench to help provide spacing. Honestly I'd be willing to just buyout/waive Love immediately to clear up minutes if we could get someone like Lauri to come in. He's not the the healthiest himself but he's likely to be available more than Love is.

I'm interested to see if the NOP-MEM deal gets expanded or not. They could have completed it earlier but seem to be waiting. Was the Allen deal to help open up a roster spot? Will they instead use the newly created space to extend Anderson with a pay bump this year?

I mean, the reason Markkanen presumably wants to get out of Chicago is that he was relegated to bench duty once Vucevic came into town. I can't imagine him being happy to come off the bench behind Mobley in Cleveland.

Is Lauri a sign and trade option for Portland? Has that been done yet?

If it’s DJJ+Simons+2nd(s) going out (13.6 mil) can Portland fill out the bench with min contracts and stay under apron? Not too familiar with their cap situation.

Flip Little+2nd(s) for Roby+Williams to split his salary in two players if money is as tight as I think? Probably should do that deal either way.

Bad idea?

I guess everyone was waiting to see where Grayson Allen ended up. Since then we've gotten a few different reports ha. Winslow, KD, Kawhi.

Sigh...

At the same time, outside Batum there really wasnt a starting caliber guy we missed out on that fits and went for a MLE type deal. So I am a bit perplexed at people thinking the lack of bringing in a needle mover with the MLE is something surprising.

I agree largely. Seems like Dame had a few specific ideas, though I'm not sure how reasonable they were.

Sorry but I'm a seller on the narrative that the Blazers did everything they could and Dame is unfair to even hint otherwise. DJJ's $10M is still sitting on the roster and they have assets who could turn him into something actually useful. Im sorry but Zeller and Snell and keeping Powell isn't inspiring to me either.

Moved this to the catchall thread. Don't think its quite thread-worthy just yet. :D

That's fair. Excited for Precious, but also found it amazing that it's the agency getting the news out. Probably just tired of waiting.

I agree if this is it... but that path to change isn't dead yet.

There are several significant trade options to be explored, to be sure. But Dame is a smart guy and he knows how the league works. I don't know what he expected in free agency. I think he was hoping for one of the vets we saw go to the super teams to take a cut to go to Portland instead, but he knows that was a long shot.

Oh agree 100%. But if I'm Dame and for the first time I put some public pressure on the org and 5 days into free agency the team has essentially added nothing I'd be wanting some answers. I have no doubts the Blazers have been trying to do something and will continue to.

I just don't buy the narrative that it was Batum or bust so this is all fine. I think its not fine at all. Just like I think my little Mavs haven't done close to enough either. Richardson for Bullock and add Brown? This isn't moving the team forward either.

Ya, this sounds like the alarm is sounding because of the lack of FA needle moving acquisitions. Which is nuts, as that was never going to happen.

If no trades are made, thats a big issue. But give them more than 5 days.
