Raptors FO knows there will be a bidding war at the deadline for Dragic’s services. We aren’t winning anyways this year so why not wait for the best offer at the deadline?

In this scenario...is Dragic playing for the raptors or just sitting?

I can't imagine him not playing. We actually need him. Pretty thin at the guard positions.

What was the bidding war like for Lowry last year? There is a lot of revisionist history going on right now... It would seem absolutely NOTHING was offered for Lowry at the deadline last year from those wanting to run spin on the front office's ability to "get something" in return for Lowry...

With that being said, why on earth would we assume that a lesser player in Dragic @ 19.5m will have any sort of value at the deadline without taking back an even worse deal?

trading kyle was always going to be tough b/c he makes $30 mil. dragic, not as good as lowry, but still good and at a more moveable cost. that salary played a huge part. plus we don't have the same emotional connection to dragic that we did with kyle.

I would have him play early in the season.

If we're really bad by early January, I would ask him to take a mentor type role, until the trade deadline..

I'd rather keep him and let him walk at the end of the season for free cap space rather than take a **** contract back for seasons beyond this one. Keep playing hardball!

We don't like the offer, so keep him. Simple as that. Once the season starts, his value will increase because he's probably going to get minutes and our system is good for shooters.

Somebody will offer a FRP.

Even if he doesn't go at the deadline he is a 19+ mil expiring.

The Lowry S&T to Miami was literally announced within 30 minutes of FA season starting. It was the first domino.

If you're going to argue all these things so vocally today, basing your posts on some semblance of reality might be smart.

You’re clearly not on the same page as what I’m talking about. Yes, the Lowry sign and trade was known when Free agency started. But the return was never announced until today

Once the season starts and teams suffer injuries or get off to disappointing starts, teams will come a calling. Just be patient. Dragic is still a quality vet.

Of course I am not on the same page, why do you think I am disagreeing with you?

The S&T was in fact announced on Monday and many subsequent reports have come out also, almost all of them saying that Dragic and Achiuwa were the princple pieces coming back to Toronto. If you are choosing to ignore the reports that have come out all week, that's your problem. The info WAS out there from the Shams and Wojs and Steins and Fishers.

You wanting to hear something else doesn't mean these things weren't said all over the internet.

You say that like it's 2K money... If I were writing the checks, my eyebrows are raised heavily at this deal... If Miami was going to sign Lowry into their cap space regardless, it's not like Lowry really needed the favour, right? As a result, Masai just paid 19.5m allowing Miami to keep their MLE to sign Tucker, just so he could get the rights to Achuiwa. That's a BIG investment to make to get your hands on the 20th pick from last years draft.

Dragic at 35 years old has ZERO value to this team and it would seem there isn't much interest in the market for him. Dragic is a sunk cost who will be likely bought out at some point this season, if nothing gets done before training camp.

I don’t think Dragic is going to fetch that much in a trade unless you are taking on bad money. It is likely 2-2nds type of trade at the deadline. But having his salary on the books can really come in handy if a bigger trade opportunity becomes available.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

The official package was never tweeted out by the Woj and Shams. That’s the entire point. That’s why everyone was still waiting on the official announcement. There were mixed reports of what the deal is. In fact, the contract for Lowry was originally reported as 3 years 90 million and it ended up being 85 million which ended the idea of KZ being involved

It was rumored to be Precious and Dragic but that’s all it was, rumor. There was speculation of a pick or KZ being involved and nobody knew what was happening since Woj and Shams never tweeted the actual S&T deal. Idk what makes you think that the details were 100% announced prior to today

I've always liked Tragic and would like to keep him until next offseason...unless Masai finds a good trade at the deadline.

Dude, I never said they were 100% announced. NO DEAL BY ANY TEAM WAS 100% ANNOUNCED until today.

You're asking for the impossible and griping because of this misguided request. It's an irrational thing to take a stance on.

The fact is that there was absolutely enough media discussion on the matter for everyone to know that the Heat were giving us Dragic and Achiuwa. Whether we do something additional with Dragic is up to us and needn't be announced as part of the Lowry deal. Miami has no part in that once we agreed what we were willing to take from them. This stuff happens literally every offseason and by multiple teams, so it's frustrating to no end when people get their panties in a bunch over things that are known to happen.

Return to Toronto Raptors
