Oubre was playing against starters, that's huge difference compared to Cody Martin. I don't like Oubre as a starter, but off the bench I'm a believer. He plays with energy and aggression, I think it's an ideal role for him. The fact that he was barely able to secure an above MLE contract will likely be a wakeup call for him. I think he's going to buy-in and be a difference maker for us.

Hard to say. The market is mostly cold at this point. Big deals are going to be really hard to come by. There are also reports of him saying that he really wants out of Chicago. He's probably going to have to give up some salary to make that happen this year. I don't really expect him to end up in Charlotte now, but, that number doesn't strike me as hugely unrealistic.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Riller being renounced has been a thing for a while now.

We need to get rid of Richards as well. He and Darling looked horribly awkward and out of place in this league. Riller actually looked like he could develop into a serviceable depth piece.

Got to figure Richards is gone as well, we are still at 16 players under contract

As punishment for being dirty tamperers New Orleans should have to remove all protections on their pick next year

By my count roster now at 17:

Lamelo Ish Harvey
Rozier Oubre Bouknight
Hayward Miles Cody Iwundu
Pj McDaniels Thor
Plumlee Kai Carey Richards

so at least 2 more need to be waived, right?

We just have Harvey's rights, he's never played in the League (think Kulboka). That said we do kinda have 17 players with DJ Carton on an Exhibit 10, though it seems he's earmarked for Greensboro.

Kevin O'Connor mentioned on the below podcast he's heard that the Mavericks, Bulls, and Hornets are discussing a sign and trade involving Lauri Markkanen:

At this point, what would a Markkanen sign-and-trade even look like? I liked the guy as a FA signing, but I wouldn't give up anything substantial for him. Like, I'd rather have PJ than Lauri

Certainly would require dealing player(s) that make the dollars work. Not giving up on PJ, but I view him as a similar gamble to Lauri…ppossibly bigger. Why?

> Coming into last season so out of shape was a warning flag moment. Improvement measured in the summer between year 1 and 2 demonstrates a young player’s mindset, priorities, dedication. PJ flunked this test.

> PJ can be viewed as a small ball center, but his effectiveness in that position is questionable long term. So, does he better fit the 4? Maybe. Would Lauri be a better 4 than PJ? Maybe. So why consider dealing PJ as part of acquiring Markkanan?

> What I see in PJ is a player of good potential who is kind of a tweener. He probably has his best skill set for center, but he’s just too small to SUSTAIN success in that role. In Lauri I see a taller, motivated stretch 4 who can play center. His skill set is strong. Like PJ he needs to improve his defense but his size coupled with his athleticism can help improve that.

I’d love to have both, with PJ playing a super sub role backing Lauri at the 4 and occasionally others at the 5. Could a trade involve Rozier? Depends on what we get back. This type of deal is most difficult because Markkanan and his agent hold a higher value in their mind than Chicago and possibly the remaining market does. Such deals take time to work out, if they ever do. What would Dallas want..what do they need? Maybe they’d receive our player(s), sending theirs to the Bulls.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I think in a Bulls/Dallas/Charlotte deal Markannen would go to Dallas. He's an obvious fit there and wasn't it reported he wanted to play with Luka last year?

No idea what we'd get in that scenario though. Dallas doesn't have much to offer, maybe we try to get Porzingis. PJ and Gordon would need to be involved for salary purposes.

Maybe:

Chicago get: PJ Washington + Someone form Dallas ( Finney Smith?) + Dallas first
Dallas get: Markkanen and Gordon
We get: Porzingis + White + Dallas first

Please let us stay away from that Porzingis guy. He hasn't been appreciated everywhere he's been. He doesn't even get along with Luka who seems to be a pretty cool Guy.

I hope not, that deal would be horrible for us. We are giving up the 2 best players in the whole deal.

Return to Charlotte Hornets
