Some things never change.

Old Man Jerry** is his whipping boy, for freezing out NBA brass & preventing their most profitable franchise from succeeding for 20+ yrs. If it were anyone besides Reinsdorf (who knows where all the bodies are buried), the Bulls would've been forced to be sold yrs ago

After reading that Woj article after I made this post, I thankfully no longer want to make that bet.

Deals have been voided for violating the CBA. But I’m not aware of any in which the violation was tampering.

For tampering I can't remember a deal voided. Only thing I remember was in 2017, when the Lakers were fined $500,000 for trying to lure Paul George in when he was still under contract and when Draymond Green was fined $50,000 for expressing interest in getting Devin Booker to the Warriors.

I wonder if the investigation is to keep.other execs happy, like someone else mentioned, but everything is found to be on the up and up.

The problem with voiding is that other teams and players made deals assuming these tampering deals were done. It affects more than just these four teams. I think it will be fines and picks.

Didn't you also predict the Vuch trade a few months ago?

I just suggested it as a trade we should pursue, but I don't think I thought it'd actually happen.

Juwan Howard to the Miami Heat in 96 was voided by the league if I remember correctly.

Edit: Looks like that wasn't for tampering.

seems like we shouldn't have very obviously done tampering one year after the league made clear it was willing to go after the most cartoonishly obvious examples of tampering just to keep up appearances

The ground workings of this deal could have been laid during the trade deadline.. how is it tampering if a team tells you they’ll revisit the offer in the off season when lonzo is restricted?

It’s too late to void the deals, that would cause complete chaos. But losing next year’s pick as an asset would be pretty terrible considering how many picks we’ve traded now. Don’t care about fines. Not my money.

This league needs to figure out how to deal with their rules. Pretending to care sometimes isn’t doing it.

This isn’t a legal matter, right? It’s an association bylaw? They don’t need the same burden of proof as court of law. So if they think tampering was a pet of ANY deal, they have the right to place a fine…. Might as well just fine any team that signed a player on day 1 of free agency

Now I'm thinking about a timetable.
Imagine if it takes the NBA a month to investigate and they determine that the Bulls are innocent. Our team will have been unnecessarily injured while everyone else is still competing for the best available free agents.

Voiding would be drastic. It would be dumb to kneecap a big market like Chicago - $$$ is what matters. Further it would screw over Lonzo and Lowry now that the money is dried up. The players union wouldn't stand for that.

This has nothing to do with the Bulls and the other teams specifically, with what they did or didn’t do but the league protecting the image of the NBA, based on how quickly these moves were made and announced.

This is nothing but a PR move, protecting their brand and their “rules”, and they may very well fine the team, but it won’t go beyond that unless the league wants to open itself up to the other dirty goings on behind closed curtains, but an organization it felt it was done dirty by.
Why so serious?

Every team does this or else they won’t have a chance to sign the player they want. If teams actually play by the rules they are screwed.

It sure appears teams did not learn anything after what happened with Bogdanovic last year, and that was literally stopped from even happening. Maybe Silver will actually be harsher here. He probably should. It really is absurd how quickly some of these deals are announced.
