Congrats to Team USA and the Americans here on the RealGM boards. As much as it’s probably more a relief than anything given your dominance in the sport, gold medals are not to be taken for granted.

Now get behind the Boomers and help us get a bronze!

At the same time, it’s easy to forget that the Redeem Team legitimately had some of the best to ever do it. We were spoiled.

It’s crazy how small ball works so well in the olympics. Green at Center to close the gold medal game despite France having Rudy Gobert out there.

The 2004 roster had a lot of bigs: Boozer, Amare, Tim Duncan, and Emeka Okafor and also had alot of players that would now be considered PFs in a small ball system like Lebron, Odom, Shawn Marion, and even Melo. Plus it had two ball hogs in Iverson and Marbury.

Redeem team though went much smaller with Howard, Bosh, and Boozer the only bigs and then Lebron and Melo at small ball PF. Plus their two pgs were the exactly opposite of Iverson/Mebury in Paul and Kidd.

Colangelo did a hell of a job building those teams. Well done.

I know we have had our clashes due to your envy of my 4 banners, but I will be rooting for them Kangaroos for you. Weird they have the gold medal game before the bronze medal game though.

All about them USA ratings breh, that’s why the game was played when it was. An acceptable time for arguably the worlds largest TV audience.

Boomers game at 9pm Melbourne time here. Ready to eat some ramen, sink a few beers and get ready for this medal.

Its crazy to think that in 2008 it was hard to figure out who was the best player in team usa… melo, kobe, lebron, wade… they were all on the same level…

Then you see last night, and you see KD is clearly the best player… and then you start to question how good is Liliard, Booker, Tatum, really? Are they just thriving in the systems theyre in, they are incapable of playing off the ball at a high lev like the four i mentioned in 2008

There's levels to this.

LBJ/Wade/Kobe were MVP type superstars, 1A caliber generational talents.

Lilard/Booker/Tatum are very good players that are enjoying playing in a no-defense era that gives offensive players all the advantage and thus they're putting up great numbers.

None of them will be a MVP level player or will go down as top 15 ever like the Wade/LBJ/Kobe trio.

In general - The inflation of stats in current NBA skew the way some players are perceived. Simply put - they're not as good (historically speaking) as the numbers suggest - they're all "looters in a riot" to different degrees - the riot being current NBA playing style/rules/officiating/lack of RS importance/buddy buddy vibes.

It may sound crazy but I think if CP3 were on Team USA and was a starter… there wouldnt be any close games… they would have scored 120 per game easily. They needed a floor general to control the tempo and setup the offense.. they won gold riding on Durant and iso plays… and terrible 3 point shooti g

Hell of a moment for Australian basketball. Patty Mills with 42 and 9 in the clincher one of the great Olympic performances.

It feels like we’ve been building towards this for a while. Patty, Joe, Delly and Baynes deserved to get some reward for their years of service.

Patty may have one more run in him but not sure if Joe will. All about the next generation now.

Time for Giddey, Exum, Thybulle, Josh Green and yes, hopefully Simmons to take the reigns and keep it moving.

Is Patty still available? Always felt he'd be a fit.

It just happened all the USA MVP guys skipped due to injuries. If everyone was healthy team USA would have been Curry, Harden, Lebron, Durant and AD. That team wins every game with 20 + margin

Also Dame was hurt and he still went, that's why they struggled.

I didn’t do enough of a deep dive into the 2021 NBA Draft as I normally do, but how was Alperen Sengun a mid 1st and not a lotto pick?

Kid is 18yrs old and won the Turkish League MVP. You’d think that’d make you a lotto pick…

Had 15/15/3/4 in his debut today. Rockets had a nice draft getting him and Green.
