I don't remember there being much of a debate. I was excited when they traded for him cause I thought he might help and I don't remember what they gave up - a 2nd round pick or something. I don't remember it being a costly trade.

But most of us didn't like him much as a member of the Knicks, at least, that's what I remember.

Spoon was at least physical. I liked him better than Othella.

We got Al Harrington too at some point, somebody called him "Free Candy", which was a great nickname.

Loved me some Othella. He wasn’t good, but he was a hustle guy. Knew his range and never went past it offensively so he was efficient. That’s how rabid we were… we had intense discussions about Othella Harrington.

Mardy Collins is still one of the worst Knicks I’ve ever seen play.

Haha, yes Mardy Collins was one of the worst Knicks ever but Toney Douglas & Andrea Bargnani were equally as crappy!

Mardy was terrible and he started that Melo-brawl. I think Isiah ordered it, but Mardy carried it out with the tackle and like 8 players got suspended. Nate Robinson loved a fight, he threw some quick punches in there.

I remember liking Frank Williams, who started 3 games before the Marbury trade and the Knicks won all 3 games. He's, so far as I know, our only undefeted PG in starts. I liked Sweetney, especially his rookie year but he didn't work out.

Kemba Walker was babied by the Celtics the whole year last year. Celtics didn’t play Kemba in back to back games the whole year. Celtics even sat him a week at a time during different parts of the year. The idea was to have him healthy as possible for the playoffs. Celtics played 5 playoff games against the Nets and Kemba missed the last 2-3 playoff games because of his knee. Celtics quickly moved on from Kemba. I’m afraid it might be more of the same this year.

As far as Kemba Walker and the Knicks I think it’s a great low risk potential high reward move at 2 years and $16-18 million. Kemba when he plays is pretty good offensively and tries hard defensively taking a lot of charges. Kemba Walker is more of a jump shooter at this point of his career. Kemba will have really good stretches for about 7-10 days then his knee catches up with him and he has to sit.

Kemba Walker is a super guy and I wish him success in New York. Would be a great story. I just wanted to give you guys an idea of what “might” happen with Kemba. Good Luck!

Just for record he suffered a bone bruise in the playoffs on a play that was unrelated to the prior knee condition

Yup and he finished the season pretty strong, dropping something like 24.ppg efficiently for the last 10 games..

Remember that time when Douglas told the coach that he wanted to guard Shaq. Nobody else on our roster could guard him so they gave 6'2 T-dog a turn. He didn't do any worse than anyone else.

I think I was the only one who called him T-dog. Maybe not. He played hard, he just kinda stunk on the offensive end.

Who wins in a 1on1 Mardy Collins vs Rick Brunson. You MUST pick a winner.

After my wife arrived in this country, never having seen a basketball game before, she watched the Knicks with me. It wasn't very long before she asked, referring to Toney Douglas, "Why does he keep dribbling the ball towards where everybody is so he gets stuck? He does this almost every time."

I told her he wasn't any help to our offense, but it's hard to get a good point guard. Well now, for the first time in her life in America, we have one.

I remember Frank Williams knocked Jason Kidd to the floor then stood over him and he immediately became an RGM legend. I honestly never really liked him but I think it had more to do with the hype than the player.

Frank Williams was Linsanity and French Prince all rolled into one....
Ah the NoSharington/Free Candy days.

I liked how I think we had a full trio at one point of Malik Rose, Othella, and Spoon. I forget when Mo Taylor got involved, but we had a cavalcade of PF's playing C. Kurt/Doleac was pick n pop all day!

Demetris Nichols and Lavar Postell or Dijon Thompson and James White?

Could have. I don't remember. I think most 2nd round picks didn't work out back then. Drafts are deeper now so 2nd round picks have more value, but that's just an impression. I wouldn't swear to that.

The Knicks got some pretty good value with some later picks. David Lee, Wilson Chandler, Trever Ariza, but they did too many bad trades. It never came together.

Wilson Chandler had a nice rookie season and helped the Knicks win a few games down the stretch which cost them Seth Curry, who they wanted to draft. That one hurt, all because we had a rookie stepping up during largely meaningless games. I'm really glad the NBA changed the odds on the lottery because bad teams just a few wins apart, it should be more random.

I'll take honey dijon and flight white. Although James did let us down in the dunk contest on all those failed missed free throw line attempts.

I love this signing. Kemba is the type of PG New York needs. If you get Kemba and Rose to both be healthy. We can expect the following...

30 ppg 8 rpg 10 apg

That from the both of them combined. That's great production from your PG rotation. Above is what I think is worst case with Kemba playing 25-28 mpg and Rose 20-23 MPG.

Best case

Kemba puts up

20 ppg 5 rpg 5 apg in 33 mpg
45% FG 38% 3 PT

NY WOULD LOVE IT !

I am hoping our starting line up can put up the following with RJ taking another leap.

1- Kemba - 15 ppg 4 rpg 6 apg 45% FG 37% 3PT
2- Evan - 18 ppg 3 rpg 3 apg 45% FG 40% 3PT
3- RJ - 20 ppg 7 rpg 3 apg 45% FG 37-40% 3PT
4- Julius - 20 ppg 10 rpg 5 apg 45% FG 37-40% 3 PT
5- Mitch - 10 ppg 10 rpg 3 bpg

Total starting unit - 83 ppg 34 rpg 17 apg

Thoughts ?

I wasn't here yet but I was very hopeful for Othella because he had a cool name and went to Georgetown, like Ewing. Unfortunately, he was a limited NBA player.

All that was fun to read. I remember being super high on Weatherspoon and later Vin Baker.

Lord please don't let Kemba be like Baker or Baron Davis. Let us catch a break for once

I don’t know how many points you think a Thibs led team will average. 83 for the starters? If you factor in the bench with Rose getting 15, IQ - 12, Burks - 12, not even counting Obi and the others, we are already at 120. I don’t see it. Temper expectations.
