We're definitely going to need it.

I mentioned this in the other thread but Begarin is indeed playing Summer League now. At his own request, apparently.

A little too pat that Coach Joe started and ended the week with a spotlight on their 4 SL vets?

I hope that doesn't mean that Yam and Juhann and Sam were left flailing...

Update: Ouch! It does sound like they're struggling:

Nice to hear Nesmith talking about learning a new system:

(Will make SL a little more interesting to watch from that perspective...)

My addiction to Boston BB will have me watching in the middle of the summer on a Sunday! :-? :x

But that's why it's an addiction I guess.

** I want Nesmith to go off for 40, then get to retire for the rest of the summer so Begarin can get his MVP and Roster spot.. THIS YEAER!!!

Love Celtics SL.

I will be interesting to watch Yam.

The player I'm most interested in watching is Nesmith. I feel like he is going to have a big year. I liked the way he played the last month of the season. I hope he builds on that in SL and into the new season. Something tells me Nesmith has a chance to be an all-star type player in a 2 or 3 years. Not saying he will, but he has a chance based on his skills and work ethic.

I suspect Nesmith and Pritchard will take more of a backseat. Guys who are already rotation players use SL to work on specific aspects, usually weaker ones, so they don’t necessarily look great. Guys like Madar and Begarin however need to show that can play NBA level hoops. I’m stoked to see all of it though. I’m irrationally more excited for this SL than any one in the last few years.

Usually guys like PP, Nesmith and Langford are expected to be the leader of the team in the first couple of games. I fully expect one of those guys to take on that role that way Smart and Rozier once did. I’d love to see one hit a big game winner to propel them into a big season.

Romeo definitely needs to go out there and be a scorer. This is his first chance to show his full game since he’s been hurt every year

Romeo Langford has got to be the big storyline here. This is a big moment in his basketball career, not just with the Celtics but in general. This is the first offseason he's been healthy. He's been an absolute bottom-of-the-league offensive player so far, but on a contending team where the urgency denies him opportunities to exercise his offensive strengths. This is his chance to show slashing and secondary ballhandling chops to the Celtics/other potential teams that have been suppressed by lack of opportunity/lack of confidence.

Its hard to see Aaron getting a platform to showcase the exact value he'd have in the regular season in a SL setting. Shots off the catch in the flow of an actual offensive set are few and far between in SL, and the defense is terrible so his off-ball defense might not be visible. It would be nice to see some individual chops. Some drives off DHOs and a few pull-ups. But I wouldn't read too much into it.

Pritchard, I would agree with what ParticleMan said. I don't think he's got much to prove.

Madar is the wild card. Can he run offense in the NBA? He's got good size and he's evidently a pest. So if he can run offense, you might have a role for him at the end of the bench. If not, you send him back to Israel to work on his game some more.

Begarin being at SL at all is exceeding expectations. I doubt he'll play much. He needs a year or two overseas to work on his fundamentals. I'm just happy he jumped at the chance to play.

I'm with the crowd that thinks PP doesn't need to prove much and I'd lump Nesmith into that category as well. They'll have a role already, both showed they can be NBA reserves at min last season. Yam I'm hopeful about but have no idea how his game will translate, he has the size and toolset but highlight videos have got my hopes up for nothing too many times so I'm not holding my breath. Romeo is where I'm really getting my hopes up, his one on one defense was impressive when he finally saw the floor last year, now it's just a matter of seeing what he can offer on the other side of the ball. If he can upgrade Semi on both sides of the ball at a minimum that's a good start (and I wasn't a Semi hater so that's not the rock bottom expectation some will take it as). I'd like to see a healthy Romeo look dominant in summer league ala Marcus's last showing, it doesn't mean a lot for the regular season but if he doesn't look good I'll be a little worried. Hopefully there is enough spacing for him to attack the basket a little.

I see the 2 as similar in some ways and imagine that if Juhann somehow made it over here they might become close friends beyond competitively working out together.

Yam, Romeo, Nesmith, PP, Juhann, looking forward to seeing them all for different reasons.

Yam just so we can see what he's made of. Juhann to see if he's got any NBA ready, well, anything. Romeo to see how he plays with health and training behind him, and Nesmith/Pritch just to see if they've improved their game.

Woo can't wait!!

I'll second that. Nesmith and PP also excel at making teams pay for doubling up the Js. their skill set is more or less already proven. SL is a big up and down quick shot game with everyone trying to prove themselves. They have nothing to prove.

I'd like see what an Aggressive Romeo looks like. Like to see anything about Begarin and Yam. I would start both of them and let them get a heavy dose of the more physical talented and speed of the NBA game.

Romeo had proven he is stud defender already. This is his chance to prove he can be more than that.

Nesmith has a lot to prove. He has to prove he has more value than the #23 pick given away just to get rid of Kanter salary. He showed us flashes but overall less than second round picks have showed in past. I believe he will…. But it’s a fallacy to say he has nothing to prove.

PP wants to show he can be the leader and star of this group.

I expect to see Nesmith move more smoothly and less herky-jerky. I want Langford to be more assertive and have that scorer's mentality.

so psyched. In many ways, I enjoy the draft, Summer League and pre-season, more than the regular season. We get to actually see our young players and there's still hope. The way our roster sits presently, this may carry over to the regulars season which is fine by me since I think these young guys are potentially better than any FAs still available. As long as the Jays are on board, I'm all for playing the youth and lets the chips fall where they may. If they fail, we suck, and it lands us a top 10 pick, and the Jays understand and are okay with it because the ends justify the means? Then great. If they succeed like I anticipate and prove they're high quality NBA starters? Well then, we have one of the best young starting fives in the league and good veteran depth and we look attractive to FAs.

The worst thing that can happen is to fail to give the kids minutes and still not know if they're NBA starters because some veteran who isn't a difference maker, is taking their development time. Don't you want to see Robert Williams getting 30 mpg, rolling to the rim in the PnR with PP and Smart, setting high screens and getting some pick n' pops from 15-18 feet? Blocking shots on help defense, learning to stay out of foul trouble? I'm concerned Kanter is going to keep Rob at 22-24 sporadic mpg. Or Richardson doing similar to Nesmith and Langford. Or Schroder to Pritchard and Madar.
