Post#1 » by kellmellus50 » Sun Aug 8, 2021 3:47 pm

According to reports, the Detroit Pistons have waived SG Rodney McGruder.

As noted by James Edwards III of The Athletic, McGruder could potentially be brought back on a smaller deal.

Probably necessary to make our free agent deals work.

I'd be fine if he was back on a minimum deal.

If there was an award for fifteenth man of the year, he would be in the running. Talented guy, excellent backup to the backup.

Yeah he's ok but I don't think we should use a roster spot on him. I'd rather the last spots be used on young players with upside or the 2nd round rookies.

I don't see a roster spot available for him given Livers signed a guaranteed contract.

Barring a 2-for-1 type trade Pistons will look like -

Hayes/Joseph/Lee
Cunningham/Doumbouya/F.Jackson
Bey/J.Jackson/Livers
Grant/Doumbouya/Lyles
Stewart/Olynyk/Okafor*

*or Garza

I think it depends on what happens with Diallo and Frank Jackson.

I’d definitely prefer to see what the team has in Garza and his new found weight before playing Okafor but if he’s not better than Jahlil, I don’t want to see either one step foot on the court lol

I need a double shot of kool-aid, what’s your best case scenario player comp for Garza?

Fine with it. New era, and its time to stop carrying players that have no chance of making rosters.

That would be a big win! Can’t wait to see him in action.

I was really down on the pick but I’m still excited to see what he can do against NBA players and I’m hoping for the best.

It looks like they just resigned McGruder.

I don’t really get this one. I guess Diallo isn’t coming back.

Whether we trade Josh or Diallo is not coming back.

Yeah, I've been making a case that Diallo shouldn't be brought back. But I really don't get why McGruder was re-signed. He really serves no purpose, other than claiming a valuable roster spot.

They could always make a trade with no player coming back, or Troy could waive another guy with a guranteed contract. But As it currently stands Pistons now have a full roster of 15 contracted players. So Diallo won't return, and Garza will be on a 2 way if he's on the team at all.

This is nuts. Diallo is the only chance we have at a premier athlete on this team right now.
