SL Hot Takes/ Reactions : Day 1

Post#1 » by RookieStar » Mon Aug 9, 2021 2:22 am

Ok so who is the best player, steal, flashiest etc so far? Its only the 1st day but that doesnt stop any of us from making questionable hot takes.

This thread is for you all to vent why we didn't get that player who showed out as well as giving your haterade hot takes a vent.

Ill start :

Best Player : Gotta go with J. Johnson. Dude was efficient and showed scoring abilities wherever he was.

Flashiest Player : Gotta go with J.Green. Dude is a walking ESPN top 10

Questionable Player : Sengun - foul magnet. Would he get those same calls in the NBA? Also he missed a lot of shots. He also looked to.be one of those guys that offensive players like Dame and Trae will actively hunt. Howver, impressive stats though.

Killian Hayes is giving me an Elfrid Payton vibe.

I agree with all of this. I think Scottie Barnes looked pretty nice in a lot of ways as well. I'm ready for the influx of stupid comments come tomorrow if Suggs doesn't look as good as Barnes did from both our friends here on the Magic boards and the Raptors' fanbase.

Yup Barnes looked good. He wasnt shy about launching 3s. Some of his drives were wild so I dunno.about him playing the Luka/Ben role.

I wanna see him being guarded by players as big or bigger than him. I mean Toppin is probably taller than him but slim/slight than Barnes.

Scottie Barnes is Michael Jordan because he hit a shot from the arc in Summer league.

Barnes was off the board when we picked so his performance is irrelevant.

I didn’t watch Bouk but the boxscore looked like he was the scoring thread most of us expected.

That will be a knee jerk story if Franz doesn’t get off to a good start.

I really don't base a lot on Summer League play.

Sure, it's good to see the player your team drafted perform well but anyone remember Olumide Oyedeji?

So, there is that.

With that said, Scottie Barnes looked good and played as I suspected. He might not be a good shooter but I think he will develop his shot in time. He definitely is no Ben Simmons but not a point guard either.

James Bouknight looked good and while it would have been loaded in the backcourt here, I do think it could have worked but I'm not going to be a negative nellie about it. Franz Wagner will at least be a nice role player and hopefully more.

I saw someone above mentioned Killian Hayes. I have never been high on him and felt he would not be more than a backup.

LiAngelo Ball looked pretty well and hopefully he will join his brothers on an NBA roster this year.

Bouknight paired with Ball is gonna be a problem for the league down the line. He is as expected, a bucket-getter. His athleticisim aka jumping ability really helped him with timely blocks and offesive putbacks.

DET also has to figure out their backcourt. I mean this is SL and all with laughable hot takes but I don't think Cade and Hayes can co-exist together. Loved that they got Garza though. What an offensive minded C.

Still like Barnes.

Bouknight so far is exactly the player type i dont like. 14 shots, 1 Ass, 3 TO as a guard. + Is it just me or looks he really small ?

Still a bit disappointed that we didnt draft Sengün.

Barnes looks like he needs to drop about 20 lbs. He couldn't get by anyone. His shot looks terrible. I think the high rebound game was an anomaly, he got some lucky bounces.

Green is the eye-popping talent so far.

He is still raw and needs to add some good muscle weight, but wow … it was just so easy for him.

It’s not going to be that easy against the 1st team NBA pros but you can see where the future is for him.

Barnes looked like as expected. He’s going to be a real good role player IMO.

Green, the man I wanted is legit scoring wise. He’s gonna be a problem.

Cade, man, he just looked, meh.

Mosley, he’s gonna be good.

Sengun looked well beyond his youth. Very skilled.

I’m most impressed with Green. Was really hoping we would’ve gotten 2nd or 3rd to get him.

What happened to Giddey? Saw he only played 5 minutes; nothing serious I hope?

My hot take?

I was right when I said Cade was a glorified Evan Turner

Would consider Jalen Johnson at 8.

Jalen Green is better than Cade. Lol

Jericho ‘the draft flattened out’ Sims looks to be a great pickup for the Knicks

Personally for myself it’s too early to have a negative hot take but one positive take I haven’t seen in here is about the Hawks rookies. I liked both picks on draft night and both guys looked good yesterday. J Johnson could end up being the steal of the draft, and Cooper has good bench player written all over him (not bad for late 2nd). Pretty good haul for a young team that just made a deep playoff run.

I disagree. He creates his lucky bounces. He looks awkward with the ball in his hands, but he still makes good decisions. He didn't pass up his good looks. He makes winning plays. That stuff is so much more valuable than a few percentage points in shooting efficiency.

Johnson might be fine, but yesterday wasn't really evidence of it. The box score was far more impressive than the film. He kept getting Edwards matched up against him, which isn't going to happen in the NBA. He had one nice play where he caught the ball on the left wing in transition ahead of the defense and attacked the basket for a finish. Other than that, it was some easy finishes at the rim that were the result of defensive mistakes.
