Josh Allen signed 6 year deal for up to $288 million

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Mon Aug 9, 2021 3:48 pm

Is that insane or what? That's more than Mahomes deal for up to $503 million over 12 years. I guess the NFL makes a lot more money, but they do have a lot more players to pay, though the QB is obviously far worth more than any other player.

Could you translate that into guaranteed money terms since that's all that really matters in the NFL

About $164.5 I believe, but it is only that much if he is gone after 3 years, which would only likely be the case in injury since he is probably a top 3-5 QB right now.

You don't need to get cute when find a way to usurp the Patriots. Josh Allen will dominate the AFC East for the next decade, he's worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure they'll renegotiate before the end of 3 years regardless.

Wonder how much that is compared to Mahomes. I know a lot of agents weren't happy with him when he took that deal and felt he could have gotten a lot more.

Guess that’s what happens when your last good QB was Jim Kelly.

Baker Mayfield is smiling ear-to-ear after hearing that news. He's still in on going talks with Cleveland for an extension.

Not really if you look at the details they can get out of it after 4 years and the last two years doesn’t hit their cap at all if released.

If Josh Allen maintains his breakout season level of play he's worth it. If he continues improving its a bargain over the course of the deal as the cap and QB money continues to rise

If he regresses, it doesn't matter because no team is actually going to move on from him after what he showed last season given what his physical tools/ceiling is, and he gets another 2-3 seasons to get back to form

Worst case might be Carson Wentz complete implosion/mental collapse, but by all accounts he's a huge intangible guy who the lockerroom loves and believes in

Best case is he continues to ascend and is first ballot HOF and one of the 3 or 4 QB's that defines his generation

He's the QB equivalent of drafting a raw superfreak top 0.01 percent athlete like Giannis, who actually has the intangibles to pan out

I thought this thread was about the Cav's signing Jarrett Allen. Was shocked that's the going rate for a young big.

Agreed and we just need to pay him. He should probably be somewhere between Dak and Allen, moneywise. People are saying to wait and we could save a few million per year. They forget that this team has been a dumpster fire for nearly 3 decades. Sign him.

Looks like Mahomes actually has less guaranteed even though the contract is twice as long...a little over $140 million.

He should be in negotiations since everyone thought he sucked before last year and they were seriously thinking about moving on from him before a great season. They better be careful and not end up in a situation like Philly did with Wentz.

Really, Dak set the market for all the 2018 QB's the minute he signed, since he's basically a top 10-15 QB who probably will never be a consensus top 5. It's not impossible but I think it'd be a surprise to everyone if Dak ever has a MVP year

Any young QB with an MVP ceiling is going to get PAID over the next 5 years, especially as the cap rises with these new streaming/Amazon deals. Herbert is probably going to blow Mahomes and Allen out of the water when he's due

Chiefs are the real winner in all of this

Baker is not as good as Josh and he has more weapons than Josh.
- the best RB combo in the NFL with Chubb and Hunt
- Odell Beckam and Jarvis Landry

Compared to Allen in Buffalo
- Singletary and Moss
- Diggs and Beasley

Right now, Mahomes, Allen are better and I also think Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson are arguably better. Baker better do something this year.....
I'm so tired of the typical......

not crazy considering QB is pretty much the only position that matters in the NFL at this point
