Kris Dunn seems the likely option if they dump someone, makes $5 mil this year. Could probably get a 2nd for a smaller deal like that

DeAndre Jordan and Kevon Looney come to mind...

Think Brooklyn can only trade their 2028 FRP. Looney won't cost that much for the warriors and they usually don't pay a ton of value to get rid of contracts.

Already happy we got a FRP for Favors. Most teams don't give up FRPs to get rid of bad contracts

I think I read that for the Warriors, every $2.1M in salary cost them $12M due to luxury tax. That’s not cheap. That means that if they are able to give him to someone who has cap room, they would save roughly $30M.

Also, I this Schroder coming back crossed my mind and seeing other people thinking the same thing makes me think it could happen.

It’s cause of the luxury tax. Once they are above 20m over luxury tax line each incremental dollar is taxed at “ $3.75, and increasing $.50 for
each additional $5 million”

So at trade deadline expect them to trade away non rotational player and injured players if any .
Every single dollar they trade out is worth a lot more in salary

I’m intrigued by him. I thought his highlights looked better that both Theo’s and Poku’s.

He’s like a guard version of AK47. I hope he recovers fully. So talented. His defense and passing is excellent. Just needs that pull-up shot to fall.

Might need some help from the cap experts on this one. So we'll have a ~26M and ~27M cap hit this year and next, correct? And the amount the Knicks are paying him won't impact us due to the amount Kemba gave up?

That's solid for us, got the Horford assets for paying ~12 million extra next year. Our journey to the salary floor this year is going to be interesting if we don't use the expiring Adams TPE at all.

Now I like the buy out :)

Kemba clearly didn't want to play for us...

Yup. The amount the knicks are paying him has nothing to do with us so not gonna impact us.

Gotta hope we can use one of the other two TPEs

So 20m back + his deal with the Knicks? Basically a full season's worth of salary the Thunder don't have to pay if I have that right

Nope "only" the 20 millions. Knicks paying him what he lost in the buy out for this season.

It's a really good deal for both sides. OKC gets 20 millions back, no need to play a veteran guard while Kemba can earn the same money with the team he wanted to play for. Also pretty likely Kemba can get a decent deal after next season so he isn't really losing 10+ millions.

I believe that it does effect us, unless we agreed to waive our set off rights. But this is really confusing and I might get this wrong. I believe that the formula for Kembas cap hit on an Annual basis is:

(Contractual Salary - Negotiated Discount) - ((Knicks Salary - Vet Min) * 1/2) = OKC Cap Hit

I don’t have the energy to look up those details. But I think that puts his cap hit right around $24m ish. Assuming we didn’t waive our set off rights.

A few random thoughts

1) after today the Adams TPE will expires . Few more hours for Presti to try and use it.
2) kemba really didn’t want play for us , I think he left some money on the table against what he can get from knicks . He given up a bigger amount then Blake but Blake lost out more with what he signed with I believe
3) he had 74m o/s vs Horford 50m when the trade was done . This brings it down to 54m vs 50m with the caveat we aren’t getting any production from the 54m and we can’t trade this amount on the dead cap . So that’s what got us 16th pick . But of course Horford could have returned us more money next season and/or be buy out just for his guaranteed portion . But he will add wins to this season
4) his buyout is marginally the amount of contract for favors and other MLE signing .
5) wish kemba all the best and hope he get to be a viable starter.
