Nets fan, not exposed a ton to carter and you can never go by highlights. seems that fans who watch these guys 82+ times have the best input and the stats dont always line up, especially for role guys. seems like a pest on defense and his 3 ball isnt bad.
What were your thoguhts? can he guard 1 through 3? can he handle the ball. any scoring beyond threes? how large can he defend? how good is he defensively on the small quick guys (Sexton types)
You're getting a good player in Shamet. not just a shooter... he hits them off balance, off screens, off the dribble. outside of a stretch with COVID and a slow start as a net he was lights out

Javon is a bulldog can apply a ton of pressure on the ball handler. He can mainly only guard 1s and some small 2’s. Causes boneheaded plays by the opposition quite often. As far as offense if he is running it your in trouble. Shot under 30% until late January this year and then improved when he started playing more of a catch and shoot role. He will never stop working which is his best attribute. A roll of 7 to 10 minutes a game just hounding they hell out of the other teams primary ball handler would be best. I would always have at least 1 of Kyrie or harden on the floor with him to initiate the offense.

He's a good end of rotation guard. Not guarding small forwards much outside of switches, but he's a total pest. Handsy, physical, loves to defend full court, very competitive.
Offense is a mixed bag. He's solid for catch and shoot 3s. He can fall in love with trying to create his own shot, but he'll surprise you every now and then. Not much of a distributor.

He will always play full court press and come up with some steals. He will work harder than anyone in the gym in practice, getting there earlier than everyone and it will be contagious for the young guys you have.
He is only a 1 position defender though which limits him, and bigger guards, after learning to be more careful with the ball around him, take advantage of his lack of size on offense. He can't really switch. He can't handle really well, though I imagine he won't need to.
He can be a very good 3 pt shooter, but he is pretty much limited to that on offense.
He's a great guy, hard worker and a guy you root for but is limited as a player.

He is a solid deep bench player. His limited size can be exploited by bigger guys, but he will always compete hard. Honestly, I think your team made that trade more for the draft pick than Carter himself. As far as the trade, it was an offense for defense guard trade, and you got DaRon.

Mentioned this after the trade. I think he'll work really well in short bursts with Harden. It allows him to guard the opposing PG but not have to handle the ball and run the O (his two biggest weaknesses).
Super competitive and you'll like having him on the team.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Re: What are we getting in Javon Carter?
He’s basically a younger and better 3pt shooting version of Pat Beverly. He’s not dirty player like Beverly but similar height and length but Carter is much stronger.
Similar to Beverly, Carter can’t handle guarding 3s or the bigger 2s for an extended period of time because they can post up and shoot over him if they can shoot. But he can handle most 1s.
When I say better 3pt shooting version, I’m talking about relative to his age the last two seasons compared to what Beverly shot at that same age.
Carter’s shooting %s will only continue to improve as he’s so young and he’s such a hard worker.
He’s never gonna be a playmaker or a go to scorer or anything like that but he’s perfect as a 3 & D player at the 1 position. When Kyrie gets injured next season and misses a bunch of games (and let’s be honest, he will as history shows), Carter will be the ideal player to compliment a guy like Harden.
