Day 1 overreactions

Suggs is a stud. He needs to be the starter day 1. Really hope he and Fultz can mesh together because thay pairing could cause hboc on both sides.

For 2nd year players, Im dissappointed in RJs and Coles opening. I really like Coles personality and spirit but if hes going to wave off players who are much better than him and just dribble all the time chucking bad shots that arent even hitting rim, he can go. Summer league is still not the best basketball so not going to call for his head already but really disappointed in his play. I thought Cole was going to be the player primed for a big game today. RJ just didnt look the same player that ended the season last year. He was moving faster than he was playing. At the end of the season last year, it seemed like the game was slowing down for him. But today he looked like a rookie again. I have more faith in RJ turning it around than Cole. RJ has more NBA qualities and its clear that he isnt a SF and shouldn't play the 3.

Wagner was definitely timid and was nervous. I thought he played better in 2nd half. His defense was good in 2nd half despite the foul calls that werent actually fouls. Have a feeling we're going to have to beg this guy to be aggressive.

Also memes aside, I liked how Timma played. I really wouldn't be mad if he was actually signed.

From the perceptive of a basketball game, the Magic starters were horrible and the Magic bench was glowingly brilliant. Timma and Brazdeikis were the difference, and as both are fighting for NBA contracts, good for them!

Hampton has three field goals and 9 points in 29 minutes played and was Orlando'd second best starter. Sad.

As to Suggs: below 50% shooting. A assist to TO line below 1 (0.5 to be specific). And 4 PFs given on a -18 +/- stat line.
Just kidding. I thought he had a great game. When all the other four starters were standing up the court, he stepped up. That is nice.

Here is hoping that Wagner only had butterflies and that Hampton gets more involved. But I think this nailed that Anthony is not a starting capable player in professional basketball.

Loved watching Suggs play that game, he does all the little winning things and affects the game on both sides.

I shouted at my screen when he got that block to send it to OT and it's a summer league game

Wagner looked nervous as hell, especially in the first half. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on once he settles a bit.

Also thought Timma and Brazdeikis looked good. Timma especially was super composed and hit some big shots. Also shout out to Hassani Gravett for pulling us back into it with his shooting in the second half.

Anthony and RJ didn't look great, the balance wasn't great as all 3 guards need the ball to be effective. Lots of turnovers too when they tried to move the ball. Hopefully they gel a bit more as the competition goes on.

Also, forgot to mention - how do the NBA TV announcers get paid to know so little about the players they're commenting on?

They referred to Cole as a defensive specialist and Franz as a knockdown shooter. It's basic. Anyone on these boards could do a better job.

As probably the only one on this board who never watched any highlights or games of the draft prospects this was the first time I've watched Suggs and I was very impressed. He's exactly what we need - a big time scorer and leader who can hold his own on the other end too.

Wagner looked quite nervous and poor on offense, but I am not writing him off yet.

Cole was atrocious, he may be saying the right things in interviews but on the court he's a selfish chucker who forces way too many shots and has poor vision and decision-making.

RJ looked pretty lost out there and unsure of his role, hopefully this will be cleared up in time. Still very early days.

I hope we give Brazdeikis a contract soon, he can play and definitely will be an useful depth player on a minimum contract.

Watching Cole is rough. He's just not very good right now. I actually cringe when he has the ball.

But he has a great personality!
May I see some documentation on that please?

Suggs looked great. It's just SL, but his intangibles are what set him apart. Guy is a leader, plays hard, and makes smart decisions.

Wagner looked lost, especially in the 1st half. Not completely unexpected but first game jitters for sure.

Cole looked out of sync. He just didn't have his rhythm and was forcing everything. He needs to let the game come to him. It kind of looked like he was trying too hard to impress the new coach. Cole certainly looked more like the spark plug off the bench player that he's been type cast into.

Hampton also looked a little out of sync, not as bad as Cole, but he also rushed and forced things.

Timma looked good on offense but damn his defense is bad. Out of position constantly, losing his man, having to scramble back towards the cutter and getting lucky not to be called for more fouls.

Vest Goes to Suggs... the guy is just one of those with that winning pedigree.

Cummerbund goes the Bench.... they pulled us back into range and set the tone for the end.

Cole needs to slow down and not try to always prove himself.... keep the ball moving and your opportunity will open up. Stop trying to force the issue to prove your worth. Easy wins will prove your worth more than individual stats.

RJ... your speed is probably gonna be top notch on any given night. Loved when he took it to another gear. Definitely need to be better with the passing. some were good...just not expected by the recipients ... but others were just careless. Rooting for you to be our SG of the future.... or primary backup!

Franz.... hope you got those butterflies out your stomach... because we know you can do better than that!

Was excited for Timmis on the SL... and he did not disappoint. Gonna bet used to the look though. haha

Ignas... bulldozer. Great player.

Honestly i think people are going way overboard on Cole and RJ. Let's not forget these guys are not rookies, we got to see them all last year against real NBA competition. Not just the first summer league game of the season.

Coles handle is fine, and RJs isnt as bad as yesterday. People really need to relax, i mean i will trust the entire NBA season sample size over a single SL game where most of them were hyped and playing out of position.

Frankly the screening was pathetic yesterday and contributed to a lot of turn overs. Put Carter in there and you would see a lot better play, as pick and roll offense is our bread and butter

I agree we shouldnt overreact but saying Anthony has limited vision is nothing new. He struggled in college and he struggled last year. You can learn pick and roll reads but he is not a natural playmaker. Summer league setting propably played to his weaknesses but still its there. Suggs will need some momentum to start over Anthony and Fultz. Summer league could play into that a little.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Seriously I hope we sign him just for the memes lol

Timma has some epic hairstyles, always looks like psyhological thriller's villain. I bet he drives something like this

Funny enough, is this the car he really drives? Europe must pay really well..

Guy is stud. it's just so clear when you have good player and you don't need to dig through his 4 points where he made one good pass in first quater to feel good about prospect.

As for Cole, Hampton... I like Hampton's body and i think he has body where he could become ok nba player. Skills simply aren't there yet.
Cole is different story. He is shooting guard in body of playmaker but who isn't good at play-making.

Wagner, it's first game, nervous. Don't care.

I enjoyed watching some Moody. Kuminga looks good when he attacks the rim... not sure how much of it will be aveliable for him against pros. Maybe more than it normally would, as he got lucky and ended up on Warriors...

Overall fine first SL game. Happy to see Suggs looking good.
