Nobody took Barnes top-3. Clearly I was right. It was evident at the time that he would still be available at #4. The odds of another GM passing on Cade, Green, or Mobley to draft him was less than 1%.
Ok, I'll entertain you. Please show me any evidence that the Raptors thought Mobley > Barnes or even Mobley = Barnes.
Mobley fits the profile of a long, athletic, defence-first, high-IQ player that Masai covets. If Masai wanted to trade up, it was 100% to take Mobley. If he wanted to trade up to #3 to draft Barnes, he wouldn't be an NBA GM. Even if he coveted Barnes, he'd have the sense to know that other teams didn't. It's an insult to his intelligence to think he was willing to give up assets to trade a guy that would almost 100% be available at #4.
Mobley is potentially a true game changer, you really shouldn't put too much stock on what he does this year imo. He needs to gain muscle. However he pretty much has the most unstoppable shot theoretically, he can simply shoot over everyone.
If there's a team that's probably might regret their pick the most it's Detroit imo.
I think Cade will be an All Star, but I don't know if he has the athleticism to get his game to the level of a superstar. He truly needs to develop a step back 3 or something he can easily pull out the top of a hat that's unstoppable to max his potential. His value comes from shot creation imo as his assist/turnover rate is alarming and while he's probably a capable defender, it's not his calling card. Thus atm, he probably a low end all star player.
As for Barnes, it's simply high risk, high reward. The one good thing about Barnes, and i'll repeat this is he doesn't have the absolute unwillingness to shoot the 3 in game (*cough* Ben, Simmons*cough*) and i'd easily take him over Simmons because of that and Ben Simmons crippling contract.
Out of the 5 teams, Orlando is in a no lose situation. Regardless of what happens to the other 4 players, they get to pick the all around PG who's got a great bet to become an all star. It doesn't matter what happens with Barnes as they were not in a position to get him thus can't regret it.
As for Jalen Green, I guess the question will be what type of All Star will he be? Overrrated? underrated? low end? Superstar?
How will his game hold up once his tremendous athleticism goes away?
