Great deal for us, and another deal with a team option. I'm actually a bit surprised that Weaver has gotten so many FA's to accept team options this summer.

Sure draw up the depth chart/roster breakout however it suits one's desires.

Doesn't change the current Pistons roster being very guard heavy.

If Cojo or Lee play anything other than PG, you are at a disadvantage. If F Jax plays anything other than PG or SG, you are at a disadvantage.

Hayes has yet to show any kind ability to play off the ball, so for the foreseeable future he will play PG when he's on the floor.

So as of now it looks like Cade is going to play a lot the 2 or point 3, at least to start the season anyways. Which in turn, limits Bey's minutes switching from the 2/3 positions.

Okafor is a wasted roster spot. If Detroit will ever get anything out of Sekou that time is now, so he will need some minutes at the 3/4.

Even if you squeeze J Jax out of the rotation entirely, to me it looks like Diallo would be left with scraps.

To me Diallo is a 2/3/4. Okafor is basically holding the seat warm/break glass in case of emergency big. He was signed to be a 3rd stringer after all.

Diallo basically is going against Sekou, J Jackson for most of his minutes.

I’m not convinced Joseph has that much of a role long term, and Lee is probably looking at lot of g league assignments for the time being.

You basically sign Diallo to a, hopefully, team friendly contract and let a few guys fight for playing time.

I've been on record saying, if it was an either/or type scenario I'd much prefer bringing back Frank over Hamidou.

This is such a guard heavy roster.

Short of it resulting in Detroit wasting a draft pick to initially bring him here, I honestly don't currently see any spot/need/desire for Diallo. The 15th roster spot should really go to a frontcourt player.

Even if Detroit winds up moving J Jax for a PF/C, I still don't see much of a reason to bring back Diallo. Barring a barrage of injuries, i just don't see a path to minutes for Diallo.

Couldn't disagree more. The Pistons have virtually no plus athletes on this team and nobody, outside of Josh Jackson and Lee, that can blow by defenders and get to the rim. He's probably the best defender on the team too. I'm glad to have Frank back in the fold but Diallo is a bigger priority.

Who's minutes are you going to canibalize by playing Diallo though. No matter how we slice it, every minute Diallo plays will be taking away from someone.

As I mentioned in a previous post, even if you take out J Jax from the rotation entirely there just aren't many minutes available.

I also think you might be over-rating Diallo's ability to blow by defenders and get to the rim. I just think that if that was a solid/consistent threat to his game, he would have demanded more on the trade market last season as well as more interest in the free agent market currently.

Also, as was discussed on this board last offseason there is such a thing as having too many developmentals on a team at one time. Diallo is still a developmental type.

At a likely $2.8 or $2.9 million, he's just barely above a minimum contract. Frank Jackson is far from being guaranteed playing time for us this season. You need to sign 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th guys on the roster that won't play on a nightly basis, but could come in and perform ok if needed... usually its best that some of these guys are younger with some upside, unless you're a really young team than it might make sense to get some vets in some of these spots as well.

I really liked the way Frank Jackson played for us but he still has parts of his game he needs to work on. Hopefully he played great and is much improved and his 2nd year ends up being a bargain.... but its also very possible he ends up not playing well enough to make the rotation and he ends up not having that 2nd year option picked up by Detroit. It really could go either way.

Another thing to consider in this equation is, Pistons already have 14 contracted players. Diallo would be the 15th and final guy.

There is something to be said to Having some roster flexibility. Whether it be for trading purposes, claiming a waived player, etc.

There is also a chance that Garza might earn a roster spot as well.

Having said all that, one thing we know for sure is Troy isn't afraid to waive someone with a guaranteed contract. I'm looking at you, Jahlil.

If Okafor is not the first one to go for either Garza or a player becoming available, I’ll be seriously disappointed.

I’d love to keep an open roster spot, it just doesn’t seem like Weavers style though.

Unfortunately I think CoJo is inevitably going to start. He’s going to out play Hayes and Lee during practices and preseason and Frank Jackson just isn’t good enough defensively to start.

Yuck.

Hopefully CoJo doesn’t get a lot of minutes though.

That’s still my favorite lineup to watch though with Cade and Frank.
