I'm so glad the Knicks are going to have 48 minutes of play from the 5 where the only thing on offense the guys can do is dunk

It's good that they're unlikely bonuses, but it'll depend on what exactly they are
Because what that means is, it doesn't count against the cap this year (which is pretty irrelevant), but if he gets them, they become likely bonuses, meaning they will count against the cap going forward
So his cap hit this year will be 8.8 no matter what, which is still an overpay for a backup C, but if he hits his bonuses this year, next year's cap hit will be over 10 mil, which is a pretty big overpay for a backup C
It's tolerable cause we can get out of it within 2 years. Far from being a "masterclass" deal, especially when he's our 3rd best C being paid more than double what our best 2 are combined.

If he hits those bonuses, he'll be the 15th highest paid C in the league
How is that a bargain for a backup who's arguably not even our 2nd best C?

aren’t his unlikely bonuses stuff like becoming all nba, all defense, all star etc? if he hits those why would he be a backup?

Won''t happen. THey're called unlikely bonuses because the NBA realized he's, um, unlikely to ever get them.

Bonuses are either likely or unlikely
The difference is whether or not you've hit that mark in your career
And they can be anything, they don't have to be all nba, all star, all defense
So one of his unlikely bonuses could be play 80 games, which he's never done before, but if it were 75 games, it would be considered likely because he has hit that mark. Or it could be 76% on his free throws
That's why I said it'll depend on what the bonuses actually are, cause playing 80 games is more likely than him making an all star team, but both would be considered unlikely
But regardless of that fact, when you can find quality bench big men for the vet min, and Taj is arguably better than Noel, getting him even for 9 mil is hardly a "bargain"

Wanted not parts of giving randle a contract after next year in the 5 year $200 range which he is eligible for. This extension shows he wants to be here and while we do assume some risk that last year wasn't a total fluke. He will be very reasonable priced for the rest of the NBA.
Well done Knicks and well done randle
Yeah you can never knock a guy who took less. Shows me he's serious about winning I'm just not sure he's capable being the #1 guy. He sets a good example also in taking less.
Could he be a #2 or #3 on a contender? Sure, in specific situations.. playing alongside someone who is more of a true alpha that is able to get the ball out of hands and put him in a position of strength.. the low block. Randle's main issue is always be his ability to lose composure at the end of games or when he's under pressure. The obvious solution is find someone who isn't and let Randle focus on his #1 strength.
yup, its now on Leon and WWW to find this team a legit #1 option so Randle doesn't have to be it. But his contract extension doesn't hurt us at all in terms of doing so. It actually helps because he isn't getting paid like a max guy.
