I love the guy for what he represents. The unheralded college player who went overseas, bettered his game and physique and came back here and became a really solid player. A starting PF on an NBA champion. A Heat legend/lifer.

But the guy hasn't been a rotation player since the 2014-15 season when he was 34 years old. That was 7 years ago. He's 41! His games played since then? 1 last season. 4 in 19-20. 10 in 18-19. 14 in 17-18. 16 in 16-17. 37 in 15-16. That's legit insane.

I understand he took significant unders to re-sign with us at the start of the Big 3 era. I get all that, and I appreciate that he did it. But that was HIS decision. If he wanted to take the offer the Nuggets or Mavs put infront of him, he could've done that. He chose to stay in Miami, his hometown, with a chance to be in a dynasty team. I don't think it buys you an indefinite roster spot to recoup all your lost earnings. TBH he was pretty average for majority of that contract he signed after the lisfranc injury in year 1...

With the advent of 2-way contracts, I get that it's a lot less of an issue having a guy like UD at the end of the roster. The players love him and he must provide some form of intangible, talisman like qualities to be worth having around. But do you really want to be remembered as the guy who limped 7-8 years to get to 20 years in the pros? Rather than what I mentioned in the first paragraph?

I dunno man. At the end of the day it's whatever, but it just feels a bit of a cringey piss take at this point.

I'd feel pretty good about it if we had a legit backup 1 and not Vincent. Don't really like the idea of rolling Gabe/Herro/Strus as our 1/2/3 off the bench, but clearly the FO and Staff are into whatever Gabe brings. If he can bring the clamps, I'll live with it, but he needs to be able to hit a 3 at a much better clip than he's showed in the pros thus far.
