Excellent run based on transition play, solid D, and team oriented O. Some of our guys are taking their shots a bit early maybe trying to make a name for themselves, but a big 18-5 run wherein there wasn't as much play that was too out of our O context helped the flow and a strong 26-14 1ST Q.
Hopefully Tre makes an end of Q shot one of these plays...

Re: LAS VEGAS SUMMER LEAGUE - GAME 2: SPURS VS. BULLS, 10-8-2021, 7PM (CT)
Wonderful team D continues as the Summer Spurs built a 22-point lead before taking the foot off the pedal slightly to allow the lead to be trimmed to 13. A late Q run by us brought up the lead to over 20 again before two O boards and two consecutive and1 situations stemmed our flow a bit.
Still, a very solid effort. We look good in the half court, we are creating and making open 3s (at one point making three in a row from D stops) and we are pushing it well and finishing in transition.
We allowed some O boards for points against, so that's something to curb, and we're still off our aim in alley-oop finishes. The feel will come.
Tre has yet to hit an end of Q shot...
We lead 52-37 at the half.

Re: LAS VEGAS SUMMER LEAGUE - GAME 2: SPURS VS. BULLS, 10-8-2021, 7PM (CT)
A 12-point deficit has brought our lead down to 3. The wheels came off in several categories. We didn't respond well to quicker, more physical defensive pressure, we got stripped time and again and gave up way too many point in transition and in mid range, and the momentum along with it.
The final plays where we got outhustled for the rebound and gave up a basket while missing an end of Q drive exemplified our struggles in this Q.
Joe looks great in 3s, and very solid in transition, but has no handles game in getting around defenders. Gave up an ugly TO trying. Solid rebounding by him.
We have to withstand the pressure and regain some heart and poise.

Well that was a brutal falling apart of a second half. Sorry, I know it's 'only' SL but the Spurs got their asses handed to them.
It was like one if those body switching movies. Spurs completely lost poise, didn't box out and gave up rebounds and second chance points, made dumb plays like showing the ball on drives, and getting stripped, rushing contested shots, breaking down defensively to allow open back door cuts.
Just nowhere near the requisite team play, BBIQ, and hustle. We go completely outclassed on both ends, despite the mini-run towards the end of the 4TH Q.
Again it's ore-season but in terms of improvement, we showed a lot of it in th first half and then regressed in the second. Sure we were without Primo and Devin, but we got the big 22-point lead without them anyway. We gave the game away with play that is totally fixable but disappointingly disappeared or it simply caught up to us when the shots weren't falling. Hardly any O boards and poor finishing at th rim didn't help.
Yes a back to back was likely a factor but I'm tired of us getting kicked around. Need more sandpaper resolve out there. Just played on our heels and could stop th bleeding nearly enough. Deflating, lots of lesson to learn, hopefully it lights a fire.
Lesson 1: consistent competitiveness with sound fundamentals.
92-89 has us looking for our first SL win. Better play for an entire game will help us get one.

Wieskamp looked really bad in my view.
Just tentative, nervous and out of his league.
Hopefully for his sake it was just one of those games.

I know its early but I cant help but think why we didn't take Alperen Sengun. He was right there for the taking. He was ours. Thats why I was soo upset with the Primo pick.
I thought we reached for him when no one else was going to.
Sengun is only 19 and he looks way closer to being a pro and is showing he can ball. I know its only summer league but can you imagine if we had a big with his skills at 19? I would feel much better about that.

He is an undersized center, probably with a complex personality and stellar illness against the background of a MVP at 18 years old.
He is either very arrogant or very peculiar. The Turk managed to be drafted, when at first he did not let Silver hug him, and then did not shake his hand a second time, but now he is noticed for ignoring game ethics: he does not give "five" to partners after free throws, does not indicate the player who gave him an assist.
He will not be able to defend properly on the arc and under the ring due to the limitations of his body.
Do you really believe you can build a contender around a player like Sabonis?
Max Strus scored 32 points today. Will he be better than Primo too?

Just sounds like you hate him. Personal vendetta? I said it was early but he looks like a better player and I like his attitude. You are really going to judge him on giving not high fives every 2 seconds?

And since Spurs already had a workout and an interview with him, but still did not choose him, then maybe something forced them to abandon Alperen. Something that we just couldn't see.
Or maybe it's because they think Primo's ceiling is much higher.

That very well could be true. I doubt it had anything to do with hand shaking or high fives.
Like I said, its only summer league and he looks much better than Primo right now. Can't really argue with the Spurs drafting history.
