I think what I like about adding Richards after the Carey pick is it looks like Richards' strengths are Carey's weaknesses
Richards good hedging/drop/switches, pnr defense, mobile out to the perimeter, 7'4 wingspan rim protection

Sheeeeeesh.

And looking at the box score, in only 25min off the bench?? I've gotta find the condensed game somewhere. Hopefully him and big Vern learn as much as they can in the bubble. One of them has to be some sort of upgrade from Biz...I actually think Nick's skillset would be very helpful.

I've been saying that for weeks. We have a typically stubborn NBA coach who only changes when forced to.

Impressive numbers.

There was one game where we stuck one of the Martin twins on the other team's center, and I was like, put Richards in!

Richards one of the players featured in ESPN best assigned nba players in G League
Nick Richards, 7-0, Center, Kentucky (Greensboro Swarm), 23.2 years old, No. 42 pick in 2020 NBA draft

Richards had a productive 8-game stint in Orlando, demonstrating an expanded offensive arsenal from what we had seen at Kentucky, to go along with the same terrific rim-protection that helped him get selected in last year's draft Having never taken a 3-pointer in three seasons at Kentucky, it was somewhat surprising to see Richards spotting up along the perimeter and spacing Greensboro's offense. He knocked down 7 of his 14 attempts, showing excellent shooting mechanics and no hesitation when left open, a promising development in line with the improvement he's shown as a free throw shooter, where he hit 80% of his attempts.

Richards ranked as one of the best rebounders in the G League as well, and while he's a fairly limited offensive player overall, his energy combined with the defensive versatility he shows on both the perimeter and interior, gives him a solid role to grow into on the Hornets long-term. He has a better chance to become a role player at this stage than fellow center Vernon Carey, who was drafted eight spots higher than Richards in November but whose porous defense in the G League bubble looks to be a major hindrance to carving out playing time in the NBA.

:banghead: :noway:  JB....I think you are a great coach, but are smokin too much weed if you don't work this guy into the big rotation now. Start Zellar and bring Richards in for 20 minutes as backup... Sit Biz for a game watch what Nick produces.
I got even $$$$ he gives the team 4-6 points and 8-10 boards in 20 minutes. Compare that to Biz the next game and then compare it to Zellar...Before long Nick will be giving you 12 points and 14 boards and 2 blocks in 32 minutes a night. :)

Brooklyn would be a perfect time to try him out, since no one expects the Hornets to win. But Coach Borrego is stubborn and if you are not a lottery pick, traditional thinking is you have to sit glued to the bench a year. Ridiculous.

Thought we had gotten rid of some of that thinking from the previous regime. Oh well...
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

bruh 8-10 boards in 20 minutes?

That would make him a top 3 rebounder in the entire league adjusting for efficiency.

Richards main problems seem to stem from lack of confidence not lack of talent (don't forget he was an All American 5 Star recruit out of high school), maybe an issue that is solvable as comfort level rises with playing time?

At any rate, Richards was legit one of the best two way 5s in the G League last year. He abused Moses Brown, considered by some to be the best big in the G-League last year, in their head-to-head...

Playing time in early summer league games isn't always an indicator that a player is in a teams plans. Frequently the guys getting a lot of burn early are getting their last or only shot at just making a roster.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody
