There's plenty of reason to be excited. Fields has a good chance to be the best Bear's QB in the last 60 years. I still am pinching myself that we got him.

That feeling when we finally aren't on the receiving end of a guy, picked high, playing bad.

Defensive head coach, no established weapons, NYC media, being thrown to the wolves. That's a mess waiting to happen.

Can we interest them in a gently used Superbowl MVP?

To not go into the season with a veteran QB is Peak New York Jets.

Forgot that QB room is dreadful. Truly dumb to have a franchise rookie QB without any vet leadership.

I love how excited this city is for the kid.
Derrick Rose debut was special but the BEARS own this city.

Over/Under on how long his ovation is the minute Nagy rolls him out?

I'm at OVER 2 min....

Fields is the real deal. I’ve been saying it since he was drafted. He has all the tools and the work ethic. QB1 by game #2 (Dalton will be sacrificed to the wolves aka Rams)

This is what happened when you hitch your wagon to a guy who was a unknown till about halfway through the season and then skyrocketed in off-season. To me that is shades of the Bears former starting QB.

I still think Wilson will be a fine QB in the league but I also believe the Jets are going to rue the day they passed on Fields.

Best Case: Both QBs play well in preseason and another team has their QB get dinged up and they trade for Dalton.

We will see Fields by week 4 IMO. He will make mistakes but flash his brilliance and our D and running game will win us games. His deep ball w Mooney and Goodwin and Byrd will open up a lot for the TEs and RBs.

Wilson had lots of Swag at BYU. Will be interesting to see how his Mormon faith plays into his progression. I’ve had some really interesting conversations with friends that are Mormon about their athletic careers and how their faith was used to help them and others how it ruined them due to extra pressure.

Seems like today was a breakout day - just in time for Saturday. That freaking stadium is going to be electric. I was there for the 6 TD Mitch game but we already kinda knew Mitch wasn't it at that point, but Fields showing out on Saturday will result in easily the best walk from the Museum Campus in a long long time.

Consider Thursday’s practice to be the first time Fields has looked considerably better than Andy Dalton, who didn’t appear as comfortable in the two practices against Miami as he has against his own defense. Dalton is still having a strong camp overall, but Thursday would best be described as choppy. For example, during the red zone session, Dalton hit Byrd on a nice throw to the corner, but followed that up with a miss to Darnell Mooney before getting picked off by linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel on a pass deflected at the line of scrimmage.

So what does it all mean for the Bears? Well, it means that in one practice on Thursday, Justin Fields looked like the special quarterback the Bears thought they were drafting at No. 11 overall. His full talent – the arm strength, accuracy, athleticism and speed – was all on display, especially in the red zone period.

But it was also just one practice. Fields needs to stack them together before he threatens the Bears’ plan to use Dalton as their starting quarterback this season. That said, the timing of Fields’ breakout practice was convenient, as his next test will be Saturday’s preseason game against the Dolphins at Soldier Field. It will be his first NFL game and the first time he can actually get hit by a defense. Dalton will start, but is only expected to play around 8-10 snaps. Beyond that, it will be Fields’ game into the second half, perhaps even into the fourth quarter.

There are, of course, the usual training camp caveats. Fields has been playing against backups and while he could see a few reps with the starters Saturday, he likely won’t be facing many of the Dolphins’ starters for very long. On the other hand, he was also playing behind a depleted backup offensive line in Thursday’s practice and he hasn’t had the luxury of throwing to Allen Robinson in practice. It goes both ways.

All Fields can do is pass each test he is given. He hasn’t done that every day, but the overall body of work has been encouraging. And if Thursday's joint practice against the Dolphins was any indication, a significant jump could be coming.

Tyler Lockett is what my friend keeps saying. He's going to blow by safeties repeatedly.

Fields making borderline dudes jonVea Johnson, Jesse James, etc look All-Pro is a very good sign. The best QBs do this consistently, regardless of scheme

This can't be good:

"Arguably the biggest concern for the Bears during training camp has been the offensive line, which has been ravaged by injuries, including three projected starters -- tackles Teven Jenkins and Germain Ifedi and right guard James Daniels -- which has left the line in shambles. There was more shake-up on the offensive line during Thursday's practice as Alex Bars, who was filling in at right guard, exited practice early with a knee injury. "

Unless Dalton craps the bed in preseason in a major way, from what I understand Fields cannot do much to alter the overall plan. We’ll need to wait for reg season losses and mediocrity. I didn’t originally agree, but with the current state of this O-Line, rather not throw Fields into that mess game 1. The situation is different now.

The Bears completely botched this. And it could easily stop surprise positive seasonal outcome. No way to sugarcoat. A shame to go into the schedule like this.
