What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
Hamidou Diallo is a good player we should sign but to fit him on the roster we would have to cut someone or do a 2 for 1 trade.
Okafor has to go because Luka Garza will be better then him by end of season. They should have never giving him a 4 mill contract for 2 year guaranteed this season as season 2 at 2 mill dead cap.

Re: What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
Hamidou is still a project in the sense that he has both good days and absolutely filthy, horrible terrible days. If the team needs a proficient scorer next to Cade in order for Cade's development to not be crushed under a steamroller, Diallo is hardly the guy.

He's our most athletic player and probably our best defender. He can do things that no other player on our roster can. Pay him is what to do with him. If other players need to be cut, so be it.

When Hami first came to Detroit he had a few games in a row where he looked like an all-star and playing free. I was so pumped, he looked like the real deal. I was wondering how they heck this guy got traded for a 2nd round pick.... Then he followed those performances up with complete stinkers where he couldn't finish at the rim and took bad shots. He seems to be a rhythm player at this point with highs and lows. He's a guy I'd like to resign just because I've seen him perform at a high level and hoping we can unlock some of his potential.

Re: What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
Here’s what I would do
I would start Diallo at SG next to Cade and have Killian come off the bench with Joseph and Jackson. I think Diallo would be better starting because he doesn’t have to look to make plays for others when Cade is the point guard. He’ll look to score and that’s what you need in a shooting guard. He’s a good defender and he’s a necessary athletic player to plug in the starting lineup because he would balance out Cade for alley oops and cuts. I really think that should be the starting lineup.
With that said that’s in a dream’s world that Diallo actually would become a sufficient starting shooting guard, I think out of all of our predictions, Livers is going to take the seat. I think Livers is going to come out shooting well and he’s gonna have a good body to defend, maybe another Bey story. We really need one of Killian Livers or Sekou to take the next step otherwise we’ll have to tank again which isn’t a bad decision at all.

Who's a guy in the league you would pick that would be a great fit next to Cade?

Re: What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
I believe you need multiple playmakers on the floor at all times regardless of position.
I don't necessarily view Diallo as THE guy to pair with Cade, he's just A guy at this stage.
That said he's very young and if we can get him on a team friendly deal you do that.
Hayes, CoJo, Lee
Cade, FJ, Diallo
Bey, JJ, Livers, McGruder
Grant, Sekou, Lyles
Stewart, KO, Garza
Okafor and his minimum deal get waived
Balsa takes the loophole G League deal
Garza takes the other 2 way deal
Problem solved

According to some opinions here he has to be able to score 20+ PPG on 45+% from the field, 40+% from 3, and be able to attack the basket.
To me it's just a guy who can run the point in the instances where Cade has a mismatch if he plays off ball, and hit an open jumper. I don't think it has to be a guy who is anything special; he just needs to hit shots at a respectable clip.

Re: What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
Assuming that Casey isn't married to the idea of sticking with Killian/Cade through thick and thin, I'd be curious to see how somebody like Diallo would fit into that SG role next to Cade.
If you look at the skillsets of the other 4 starters, it would seem to be a good match with the playmaker in Cade, spot up shooter in Bey and the multi-skilled frontcourt duo of Grant and Stewart. An athletic, slashing defensive minded guard would be an interesting fit.
If you want more of a pure shooter alongside Cade, maybe experiment with Frank Jackson for a while and see if it sticks. Ideally, he's more of a "microwave" scorer off the bench like a Lou Williams but he's young enough where there might be some upside as a potential starter if he can expand his game somewhat. It's a longshot but this will be another development season so it would be wise for Casey to try just about anything to see what works so we can go into season after with some clarity about who fits where when it should be winning time.
I just hope that he doesn't stick with the Cade/Killian combo if it fails for a long stretch simply because he feels obligated to develop a former 1st rounder no matter what. This is a roster filled with a bunch of players who have no defined roles yet so I hope that Casey is open to trying a bunch of different lineups throughout the season and not try to shoehorn players into roles they are ill equipped to handle.

Re: What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
Should be able to get him at a very fair deal considering how few teams have cap space at this point.
I'd be happy to offload Josh Jackson to another team or simply cut Okafor.
I do think his athleticism is important to this ground-bound squad. Would definitely be intrigued to see how Cade/Hami/Bey/Grant/Stew would work out.

I'd be happy to keep Diallo at the expense of Okafor. Okafor in my opinion provides nothing. He isn't good at anything, even situationally.

Re: What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
i'll start by saying i think there's only room for one of josh jackson and hamidou diallo, and i'd rather have diallo. hayes is the only plus-sized PG defender on the team with lee and cojo being smaller and therefore mismatches whenever switched onto other players.
diallo has the athletic ability to keep up with PGs, it all depends if he has the awareness to navigate all the screens and stuff he'd have to defend. offensively, he can alleviate a bit of ball handling duties from cade as hami continues to develop his own play making. diallo improving his 3 ball would help tremendously to fit beside cade but even if he doesn't he can be a slasher/cutter and help the team get out in transition.
i'd like to bring him back on a two year deal (third year potentially if it's a team option) for like ~$4 mil per year. we can look to trade JJ and sign garza to a two-way deal to make room for him.

Basically this. Money is drying up quick though, so it may inhibit his ability to get some outlandish contract which can be good for us.
He's such a bipolar guard though, athletic enough but he has the occasional shaky shot that goes in or out. It'll be interesting what type of pull he ultimately gets

Got me. I'm not completely unaware of NBA players on other teams but I don't watch much NBA basketball other than the Pistons and certainly can't speak to their capabilities.

Re: What to do with Hamidou Diallo ?
We should be able to get him for cheap right now. There’s no money left. Less than 5 mil a yr or the qualifying offer.
I think he would fit well in the small forward back up spot playing with Hayes, Frank Jackson, livers, Olynyk.
Our starting guard to pair with Cade isn’t on our roster yet. I think we get him in free agency or a trade. DiVencenzo makes sense, Terry Rozier would be nice too. Good spot up shooters that play D.
