I think so too. That was their year.

Nahhh top to bottom they had the best talent but after watching that I'm convinced that they would have screwed it up in some other way. Ron Artest was like Rickey Bobby's dad Reece. When things are going too good it didn't sit right with him.

He admitted he was looking for a way to escape. If it wasn't the Malice it would've been something. I think the Pacers players and people in general need to move on from that thinking because to win a championship everyone has to be locked in and that just wasn't the case on that team.

Thats why I said If they could've kept their heads straight.

Reggie said we were clearly the more mentally tough team.

Whenever you’ve got something on this scale there’s always plenty of blame to go around. But yes, Ben gets his share. Not his finest moment.

I came away sympathizing with the Pacers a bit more than I did. The lack of security and a rowdy crowd filtering down near the court set the table. Dude has no business tossing a cup of beer, way out of line. The crowd response, particularly going out on the floor, poured more fuel on the fire.

Still, Artest pretty much deserves the blame. Going into the stands is the extraordinary and nearly unheard of act that set it off.

Liked when Stern was asked if the suspension vote was unanimous - "Yes. 1-0."

4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Robert Parrish clubbing down with two fists on top of Laimbeer's head & neck while his back is turned might be a 'drastic overreaction' to Laimbeer's dirty pool. A shove to Artest's chest is most definitely not. That happens all the time. And Artest did & instigated that stuff all the time. Wallace has little-to-no blame for Artest's idiocy. The only drastic overreaction was by Artest against the idiot fan who made him feel mocked after he backed down from Ben.

Ben is not completely blameless, all kinds of people shouldn’t be. I just think it’s crazy that Jackson went up there to fight by Ron’s side rather than get him out of the situation.

The best part of the whole story is Ron asking Stephen Jackson “do you think we’ll get in trouble for this”. It sadly shows how disconnected he really is.

Then afterwards Ron and the guy who threw the beer are friends. Also there’s stories that Ron was considering joining the pistons in 05-06. THE SEASON after malice at the palace. Would have a great but awkward situation/team.

Laying on the scorer's table during a game was just as extraordinary and nearly unheard of. That's the clown show taunting move that brought the circus to town. Yeah, the dude has no business throwing beer, but that's not nearly as extraordinary at an arena event. 20+ thousand people means there's a few knuckleheads in the crowd. Security's staffed for that, not for players charging into the stands. As the crowds are moving and leaving, security's pivoting to manage traffic, exits, etc. Of course, they didn't get anyone from the venue talking about that uninteresting no-sound-bite subject.

If you're going back what instigated it, a Pacer told Artest to commit a hard foul, and he did. I don't hold that Pacer responsible for the riot, nor Ben. Or even the knucklehead who threw the beer. This was Artest. He took the extraordinary step of going into the stands.
