I agree this is very important, Panda. Some of the talk here about roster size (and UD) is out of control though, and frankly, just doesn't make much sense. The salary cap and tax equations are only relevant at the end of the season. I think the Heat will (eventually) play with 15 and two 2-ways because of lingering implications of covid and season attrition.

Players like UD and Duncan Robinson affirm the success of the Heat's work with undrafted players, and the success of Heat/SXF player development is incontrovertible. Nevertheless, because of how we manage our draft picks (and how late our picks usually are), this success is no longer optional.

Here is my complaint: I am disappointed the Heat did not buy into the second round. Around 45-48 (around where Toronto had two draft picks) there should have been an opportunity, provided Miami was willing to hand over some cash. I would have posted this before but I had an icepick in my forehead, put their by the Bucks. Respect. FML

Anyway, with respect to roster size, the Heat have a few decisions to make. I think it's best to go with 14 players for now, leaving one roster space open (which itself is an asset), two 2-ways, and six exhibit 10s to stock the team in Sioux Falls. This will allow the Heat, for example, to convert one of the 2-way contracts to a minimum salary deal (or even to sign a Nunn/Yurtseven deal on the last day of the season).

Exhibit 10 deals are explained here: http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q83

Important Detail from salary cap perspective: this money doesn't count toward the salary cap or tax. If it's not used it is opportunity lost.

And, yeah, I've no idea who I'd choose at this point. There are still a few more games to learn. If Miami manages to gets into the playoff, they will have a better stage to showcase their skills.

Also, people that doubt Udonis Haslem rarely come out looking smarter.

Nobody's questioning Haslem's former contributions, but he was last a fringe rotation player when Lebron was on the team. Even Brian Scalabrine knew when the joke ran it's course

I think it's too early for any verdict. Garrett needs quite a bit of work to become a contributor. Nevertheless, he is a young guard who distributes the ball well and gets to where he wants to be. I like him.

I am still upset we gave a pure scorer away, to avoid the tax.

Classic Arison.

Micah Potter 65 F-C 6-10 250 lbs APR 06, 1998 23 R Wisconsin

--
For me the two-way deals is a competition between Jarreau, Garrett, Nembhard, and Smart. Jarreau's game is scrappy, and he appears to have great instincts. His distance shooting hasn't been impressive, but aside from Strus and Yurtseven, this is generally true for the Heat team.

Jarreau, however, does not have a history of bad shooting. His college career has a larger sampling size than his NBA career ;-):

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/dejon-jarreau-1.html

Check out the in conference games for Houston. He hit 3's at 40%. Also his free throw percentage (more important) was not horrible. He was bad-ass for Houston, a heartless mfer who left nothing on the floor (at least in the games against UCF we saw). Total respect for his will.

So yeah, he's one of my choices for 2-way. The other guy is mostly between Garrett, who had a jayhawk career as a defensive wizard:

Read on Twitter
?s=20

Like Jarreau, Garrett isn't a great shooter, but his final season at Kansas has him hitting 3's at average, and he had a very good free throw percentage.

and one of the others (my favorites: Ja'Vonte Smart, R.J. Nembhard, Micah Potter, or Dru Smith)

Of this group, Ja'Vonte Smart is one of the best shooters. The final season of his LSU Tiger career had him making 3's at 40%% (an average of 6.2 attempts per game.) His free throw average was mid-80s. He always has had a lot of responsibility, playing point guard for 3 years for LSU at about 30 minutes per game, 34 the last season. They finished best his first season and third the last two seasons.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/javonte-smart-1.html

What I've liked about Smart though is his scrappy play and opportunism.

https://basketball.realgm.com/player/JaVonte-Smart/Summary/81700

The others have looked good sometimes too. It's an interesting team and I wonder how far they'll go.

Two-Way:

Jarreau: You have to keep him. Just as Yurtseven's shooting was special, Jarreau is average 7/2.5 ast/to, which is remarkable at this level. His defense is solid. His offense organization skills are dangerous af. Can't shoot to save his life apparently:

https://basketball.realgm.com/player/DeJon-Jarreau/Summary/88751

Maybe one of the others below:

Exhibit 10:

Garrett: a good defender. If his shot develops, I can see him contributing.

Smart: Seems to have great talent and determination. A lot of the Heat turnovers the last game were early on, and the team sometimes looks confused, especially on offense (well, except when they leave good 3-pt shooters wide open in the corner but I digress). Nevertheless, Smart looked pretty good finding a good rhythm and helped the team get back into the game.

Nembhard (if he can develop a reliable shot he would become a very good piece. He already has a lot of skill and bravura.)
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/rj-nembhard-1.html

Micah Potter (another center who can stretch the floor... from same college as Kaminsky, get in the van)
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/micah-potter-1.html

Dru Smith (another good shooter in college, looks good in SL too)

His college career was interrupted and he had to sit out a season. Finished up at Missouri:

https://basketball.realgm.com/player/DJ-Stewart-Jr/Summary/132152
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/dru-smith-1.html

He hasn't scored much, but I liked his defense. I think he's worth a slot.

DJ Stewart Jr: I've not seen enough yet.

https://basketball.realgm.com/player/DJ-Stewart-Jr/Summary/132152

Justin Smith: Haven't seen enough.
Brandon McCoy: Graduated in 2018. Played summer league thrice now. Haven't seen enough.

Love it gom (as I do most of your stuff, Charge On!)

I see a chance that we end up keeping 3 more guys from this team.

Garrett on a 1-2 year deal on the active roster

Deeky and either Dru/Smart with the other

Lowry/Oladipo*/Garrett/Vincent
Duncan/Herro
Butler/Strus/KZ
Morris/Tucker/Haslem
Bam/Dedmon/Yurt8

Smart and Deeky on 2 ways

Thank you. It was terrible. I already past the worst of it, I think...assuming the cough/lung issue doesn't kill me. My wife has a fever today. My 4 year old son and 2 month old daughter can't be far behind just because of proximity. Going to be a rough time all around in the coming week.

Hoping to see :

1) Deeky and Garrett getting 36 minutes each, both being aggressive offensively.

2) Omer going up against Azubuike - big challenge. literally.

3) Strus can take it easy, doesn't have anything more to prove at SL.

4) My personal fantasy - I'm still seeing hope with KZ. Just play free man, take shots, go hard to the paint..he has the tools it's mostly mental IMO.

Strus was there for leadership. Do not think there was anything for Strus to prove. The samething with Vincent. I will evaluate them during the preseason

I'm looking at KZ for improvement/development throughout SL and preseason.

Hang in there man, things will get better, I had it last year together with my Wife and child. She had a fever for only one day, our daughter did not have any symptoms at all, i had a fever for about three days, thanks God no long issues and no cough, lost smell and taste which was very frustrating, for like a week. Got better in about a week, but definitely felt weak for around two weeks. I was reading about immunity after getting the virus, things are not very clear for some reason about that topic, but i found a great article from a scientist talking about it, he thinks Hybrid immunity should be ideal, so after getting over the infection at least one shot of the vaccine should get you pretty well protected.
this is the link if you decide to read about it. Page 6 talks about post covid immunity.
Get well together with the family, rest and keep hydrated. Keep a pulse oximeter handy just so you can monitor oxygen levels.

Tucker should start ahead of Markieff. Starting lineup will need less of his offense than the bench.

I think the big issue was retaining Robinson as a RFA which meant not pulling his QO, had they pulled the QO for the lesser cap hit, Miami could have lost Robinson for nothing since they wouldn't have the right to match.
