Sickening & pathetic - as are the 80 million cluster **** fueling the latest surge.

One positive - it prompted me to read 3-4 very recent Covid pubs. I fell off for a few days.
The Mayo preprint published this very AM that I described in detail above is disturbing.
I am getting the Pfizer booster ASAP.

My wife is a medical doctor and when I showed her your article (found in all places... a basketball forum), she agreed with you 100%. She added, "once these idiots get COVID... there is nothing I can do for them. It is too late to get the shots."

After reading the article you posted at the link above... you better you bet... we're getting that 3rd Pfizer shot when available.

Can you link me to the article you mention?

Thank you. I had done some research in the meantime and I assume this is what you've been referring to? https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/12/mayo-clinic-covid-breakthrough-risk-may-be-much-lower-with-moderna-vaccine-than-pfizer.html

EDIT: One of the things mentioned in your summary is that the interval between the two doses may have an impact on how long the vaccine remains effective. Here in Quebec the interval for both the Pfizer and the Moderna has been between 8 and 12 weeks. There were reports about a month ago that a three-month interval was giving noticeably better results than the 2-3-week interval that the labs were recommending -- we'll see. For the time being, there's rumours here that there will be a booster for eligible older-than-60 people.

Ex, long time lurker. I’ve been following both Covid threads and have really appreciated your updates throughout.

I think I know how you’ll answer, but how do you feel about vaccines for kids? I have two (6 & 10) and I’ve been waiting for them to become eligible. Any idea on when that might come? I keep seeing end of 2021 but who knows, seems to be taking forever.

I don’t get the anti-mask logic some parents have when it comes to their kids going back to school. Seems insane to me.

Thanks!

Listen to your pediatrician. I think approval will come during Q4 2021.

I am a bit out of the loop, but has anyone actually passed away from Covid after receiving one or 2 shots?

I have heard of people catching it again but don't recall any fatalities.

There have been people still passing after being fully vaccinated but they are rare and have underlying health conditions from everything I've read and heard. There was a recent CDC study that found that unvaccinated people were roughly 29 times more likely to be hospitalized with covid.

Here is a slightly dated (July 30th) article with break through case statistics from the reporting states, in all cases the deaths and hospitalizations were negligible for vaccinated people.

https://www.kff.org/policy-watch/covid-19-vaccine-breakthrough-cases-data-from-the-states/

Still no reason to go around licking door knobs or anything but reason for optimism that as the percentage of vaccinated people climb this will come under control. The challenge at this point is getting enough lube to get the hold outs collective heads out of their asses and get them to get vaccinated.

Here's the media bias report on the source for all the weirdos like me that want a reference -

I just scheduled my booster shot and I'm going to get a 4th shot as soon as I can.

Based on my usual extensive review of peer reviewed pubs, the booster is MOST important for the immunocompromised, other at risk groups such as diabetics & anyone >60.

But sadly IMO, variants even worse than Delta, will keep occurring because of the 80 million unvaccinated in the USA & the astronomical number of unvaccinated people across the globe.

A pulmonary embolism tried to kill me and apixaban (among other things) keeps me going. I'd get a booster every other week if I could.
