A pre-draft knock on Fields’ was his tendency to hold onto the football (especially when pressured), and that showed on a lot of his dropbacks. His average time to throw (3.20 seconds) is the third-longest mark for any quarterback with 10-plus dropbacks this preseason.

“Bears” watching. But I would also like to see rookie delineated numbers.

This is or at least was a common knock against some of the all-time great QBs (Rodgers, Roethlesberger, Russ, Watson) because they have the elusiveness to evade would-be sacks that statues like Nick Foles or even Brees/Brady would just have to eat.

Fields will probably end up taking a high-ish number of sacks his whole career because his confidence in his ability to avoid the rush and make plays down the field, it's not a bad thing unless he's missing open guys.

Another year another 2nd round trade up to draft a bust by Pace. His record is impressive in how consistently awful it is.

I like Teven, I hope he gets healthy and has a great career but I'm doubtful, Pace gonna Pace.

the trade-up was probably ill advised unless jenkins is a home run, and going all-in on his ability to shift from rt to lt his rookie year was incredibly stupid, but it's also stupid to call a guy a bust because he's hurt during training camp

the moral of the story here, as it was with trubisky, is that you should only move up to get "your guy" in special circumstances, because no matter how strongly you feel about a player, your evaluation skills are probably not good enough to justify the opportunity costs, especially when things can go sideways even with a good prospect.

(luckily, it seems like the fields trade is one of those special good trade-ups!)

bear in mind (pardon the pun) that nick foles had a good game against the bears in the playoffs and pace traded for him a year later. didn't work out too well. now he's trading for old man peters, who played a big role in neutralizing mack in that same playoff game. reminiscent of paxson signing ben wallace and then rip hamilton from the former rival pistons, both of whom crashed and burned in chicago

presumably the bears are paying him peanuts to be a stopgap and the eagles will be trying out long-term solutions
