Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
Love the pick...Travis is just a friggin homerun hitter. I love his BPA high upside drafting. Hawks really do have a good environment to mold JJ into his big potential. He won't be able to play the big head here...to much young talent and great structure with Nate TS and a bunch of young players with their heads on straight

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
The Hawks announced on Thursday that they have officially signed draft picks Jalen Johnson and Sharife Cooper.
Johnson, who was selected with the 20th overall pick in last month's draft, is on a standard rookie contract. Cooper, who was selected with the 48th overall pick, has been signed to a two-way contract. Given the Hawks' depth at their respective positions (combo forward for Johnson, point guard for Cooper), it will be difficult for either to carve out a big enough role to merit consideration in most fantasy leagues.

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
The kid likes to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. That is a skill missing from our team right now. He currently plays out of control...but there is some serious potential with his level of athleticism.

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
JJ's finishing at the rim is reminiscent of a young John Collins. But his ability to put the ball on the floor and attack is more like Josh Smith.
Solid debut in a loss at Summer League 2021.

Let's hope he continues to put up numbers like this.

Really liked what I saw from him game 1. Can't believe we got this type of talent at #20.

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
This kid is crazy talented. Great pick at #20. But I do worry about his mindset...
The AthleticHow would you describe this past year for yourself and are you content with how it turned out in the end?
"It’s been crazy and a roller coaster. I’m just happy that things have happened the way they happened. I wouldn’t change it. I wouldn’t go back in time and change anything.
I know at the end of the day...that it’s about the best fit. It doesn’t matter because all of these picks are just money upfront...I’m trying to make a lot of money long-term. I’m not worried about what I’m making these first couple of years. I do want to get to that second contract and that third contract. My rookie contract is cool and all because you do make a lot of money as an 18- and 19-year-old kid. I want to set up my family with generations of wealth. That’s what I’m focused on."

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
^There is so much to that Q&A article than the negative.
I’m not sure if you’ve had a lot of time to think about this, but have you thought about what you’d like to show everyone in your rookie season?
That I’m willing to accept any role that I’m given. I just want to make the most of it, and that’s one thing that I’m going to pride myself on. I am going to give it all I got no matter how many minutes. Whatever route I take, and no matter how much I play, I will make the most of it.
You kind of led me to my next question. You obviously know the situation you’re walking into. There’s a lot of depth on this team and minutes might be hard for you to get, at least at the outset. How do you balance the need for experience with the fact that this might require a lot of patience from yourself?
There’s a lot of experience on this team, so I’m going to sit back and learn. Whenever my number is called, I’m going to be ready. I’m not really worried about any of that. I just want to learn from the best on the team and learn from the guys ahead of me. I just want to continuously work because it’s the one thing I can control. I can’t really control how many minutes I’m getting. That’s up to the coaches. I’m going to stay working hard and stay ready for when my number is called.

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
While we are headed towards a logjam at Forward, I wouldn't say it means JJ was picked by the wrong team.
Though, admittedly, OKC really should have picked him; he'd be a monster next to SGA and Pokusejski.

Bleacher ReportNBA Rookies Drafted to the Wrong Team
Jalen Johnson (Atlanta Hawks, PF)
Falling to No. 20 affected Jalen Johnson's rookie contract, and landing with the Atlanta Hawks could delay his development.
They just signed John Collins to a $125 million extension. It's going to be tough for Johnson, Bleacher Report's No. 7 overall prospect, to get many reps or ever compete for a starting job in Atlanta. And considering he only played 13 games at Duke (and nine games as a high school senior), plus the fact that he needs to improve as a shooter, he would have benefited from early playing time through mistakes.
He'll likely have to wait for the Hawks to eventually move on from Danilo Gallinari as well.
Some scouts expected the Oklahoma City Thunder to take Johnson at either No. 16 or No. 18. He made sense as an upside pick for a rebuilding franchise that could offer him a full-time role right away.
While joining a playoff-bound team like the Hawks will have its perks, limited available minutes and no path to rise up the depth chart could work against Johnson.

Murph III was my boy heading in the draft. Nice work Jalen. Good start to his career.

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
Congratulations you guys and the Rockets have both committed highway robbery.
Jalen was the second best high school kid and a clear top five talent and more ready to go than Kuminga, Barnes and Mobley.
He’s the full monty to me. Has a higher ceiling than JC and as tools go it’s literally every aspect here.
It’s a well more rounded version but same tier type of talent of what happened to MPJ just subtract the injury all over again. It’s 2021 NBA scouts never learn do they? Lol.
Also Cooper was the biggest steal of the draft, someone like Giddey went 6th.
Your both not buying defense for both and Cooper kills Giddey on the offensive ceiling like it’s not close at all.
You don’t let a prodigious floor general/passer/playmaker and an A tier scorer for a pass first PG slip all the way to 48. I don’t think he can show his full bag with you guys.
But both are clear All Star talents from the eye, and more or less a top 3-5 and a top 10 prospect in the one go.
Your GM has found the formula and is killing it.

Re: Welcome to the HAWKS - Jalen Johnson
Edit: 76ers dude stole my thunder. I guess we see what we see.
The young dude is a stud stud. I just see too much there to groom him early on with Trae and get the ball rolling fast. He's simply a more multi faceted player than Collins and we have him under control for the next 8-9 years.
He's up there with MPJ talent and impact wise. Basically he has what it takes to be the 2nd star with Trae. I think by his 2nd year a couple of guys get moved to make room bringing assets to compliment everyone.
