I mean isn't Bev going to be like bringing in Jimmy? I'm not convinced that's going to work from a chemistry perspective, or that Bev will want to play for a lotto team.

Being blunt, there is a reason why Jarrett Culver was thrown into a trade like this as the worst player in the deal.
His ceiling is fifth starter, my expectation is that he ends up being an eighth man, if he doesn't bust. It is not the worst gamble, but keep expectations low.
I agree with the low expectations point. My light optimism bases on Kyle Anderson`s magic transformation. His speed was and still is lower, his shooting mechanic was and still is even worse than Culver`s ones.
For the better or the worse: Culver's main problem isn't his shooting mechanics though (which looked way better after his first season). It's more like a confidence issue or psychological blocking which seems to hold him back (along with the injury). So maybe, after the pressure of being a 6th pick is gone he might become a valuable rotational player in Memphis. He's a good kid and hard worker. Also he's already an average defender.
I am still disappointed about his tenure with the Wolves since I kinda liked the pick back then.

AFAIK the roster maximums only apply during the season, so they won't need to cut anybody yet.

I would guess that the Wolves had already decided they weren't picking up Culver's 4th year option, so moving him and Juancho for a useful player makes a lot of sense for Minnesota.

There is a 20-person limit in the offseason, which drops to 15 once the season starts. Memphis is going to be over the offseason limit, so will need to cut or move someone before this trade is completed.

I doubt LAC ownership would be thrilled, but is it too late to just send Juancho to LAC as part of the Bledsoe?

Re: [Woj] Beverley to MIN for Culver/Hernangomez
Apparently the relationship with Juancho was really bad because of Minny saying they didn't want him playing in Tokyo since he was already injured. Honestly not a good look for Juancho and his camp imo.
As for the trade itself, seems fine for both parties but nothing special.

Part of...probably, but the Clips can use the generated TPE and absorb him.
Not sure he'd be worth it, however.

It will be interesting to see if the Grizzlies pick up Culver's $8.1M option for the 2022-23 season.

Thanks for this insight. It is adding to my optimism as Memphis is one of the best teams specialized in building confidence and curing physiological issues.

Re: [Woj] Beverley to MIN for Culver/Hernangomez
Value is reasonable, but like others I wonder why Memphis is making a rebuild type move. They could use a Beverley-type, maybe Rondo fills that role?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I think he would have to have a very impressive camp for us to pick it up by the deadline which is only a few weeks into the season. If I had to put a number on it I would say like 25% we pick up the option. We could still stash him in the G-league and look to resign him next year at or below his option number.

This is not a rebuild move since were never a Build team. We are still building with the goal of surrounding Ja with the best team we can in 3 to 4 years, next year is of less importance than finding players that can be part of long term solution. This is just a free swing at a player and some cash savings.
Bev at 33 was not a long term answer and every minute he would have played for us would be taking away development minutes for guys that might be part of our longer timeframe like Bane and Melton.

Yeah I think he’s slightly negative obviously - but he’s a useful bench stretch four if he’s healthy and it looks like LAC could use another one of those to keep vets fresh while Leonard is out?
But, as a realgm fan, I like it becaus he’s a nice size matching/ stackable contract if LAC feel like adding another big money player? Bledsoe+Juancho can bring back what 31 mil? Throw in Luke / Serge and/or Keon whatever. Would make it fun for a while.
Just cost ownership 25 million or so for Juancho?

Re: [Woj] Beverley to MIN for Culver/Hernangomez
Don't like it for Minny. Never been that high on Beverley. He's good defensively against smaller guards but struggles against bigger guys, lacks PG skills and is a marginal 3-point shooter.
Of course Culver's rookie deal is expensive enough that it's a concern to pick up if he's just a marginal reserve level.

Re: [Woj] Beverley to MIN for Culver/Hernangomez
Like it for both teams. Memphis takes a flyer on Culver and moves Bev who would have been fighting Tyus for backup PG minutes. Memphis can also decline the TO on Culver and waive Juan to keep their cap space intact next offseason if needed/the players aren't panning out. Could have some potential consolidation trades coming up or could just waive some players. Will be interesting to see what we do moving forward though it really doesn't change things for us very much either way.
