With free agency less than a week away, I wanted to clear up a few things that I have seen in the thread or via PM.

- The salary cap is $1040. However, teams can go over the "soft cap" to resign their own Bird rights FA. The "hard cap" is set at $1144. Teams who enter FA with cap space can first resign their own Bird FA and then use up whatever cap space they have remaining to sign non-Bird FA's.

For example: Team A enters FA with $920 in committed salary, three open roster spots and one Bird rights FA. They have $120 in cap space to begin FA. However, they could resign their Bird FA to a max deal $222/5 years (920+222+1+1=1144). Also, if Team A resigns their Bird rights FA to less than their max, then they could use their remaining cap space on a non-Bird FA. For instance, if team A resigns their Bird FA for $150 first, they could still bid up to $73/4 years for a non-Bird FA (920+73+150+1=1144). This would be a legal bid considering the $73 is less than the $120 the team began FA with and if successful, these bids would only bring the team to the $1144 hard cap. The 1 in the above scenarios represent the cap holds for unused roster spots. If a team resigns a Bird rights FA first, it will be announced but the terms of the deal will be held back until the team uses whatever remaining cap space they have. It is each teams responsibility to make sure that all bids are legal. Any illegal bids, i.e. a bid that puts a team over the cap, will be discarded.

- The threshold for teams to get a return PM from me will be as follows:

Bids between $1-$99 within $10 of leading bid team, will get a return PM.
Bids between $100-$199 within $20 of leading bid, team will get a return PM.
Bids between $200-$299 within $30 of leading bid, team will get a return PM.
Bids between $300-$399 within $40 of leading bid, team will get a return PM.
Bids between $400-$499 within $50 of leading bid, team will get a return PM.
Bids between $500-$599 within $60 of leading bid, team will get a return PM.

- The maximum active roster size is 15. Teams with cap space can still bid on FA's even if they are at the 15 man maximum roster size. In your PM, the team must write which of their current 15 players they are waiving, buying out, placing on the EL or trading in the contingency that their bid is the leading bid. If a team bids on multiple players that would put them over the 15 man maximum roster size, they will need to write the required number of players that they are moving off of their 15 man roster in the event that they sign those players. No bid will be considered if winning it will put the team over the 15 man maximum roster size and their is no contingency for creating the required roster space.

- Trades can still be made during FA. All teams must put into their PM subject line that they are completing a trade so the PM does not get confused with your one PM per bidding window. Teams are responsible for knowing how a trade will effect their salary cap and any bids they have on the books.

- All teams will get a return PM regarding their Bird rights FA when another team has a leading bid on them regardless of whether their bid was within the above $10+ threshold.

- I will be slightly adjusting the bidding windows for Sunday. The new schedule will be:

I needed to change the first couple of bidding windows Sunday morning for a couple of reasons. Just wanted to make sure that I have enough time to get everything going with those first couple of bidding windows. Also, there is a good chance I will not be home from 9AM-10AM to be able to devote the time needed to opening FA. So, for those reasons, the first two bidding windows will be 90 minutes rather than the hour we first discussed.

- Teams can bid on multiple players per PM. The order that they are placed will determine the order that the offer gets made. If a team has $100 in cap space and 3 open roster spots they could still place the following bid:

Player A- $80/4 years
Player B- $50/2 years
Player C- $35/4 years
Player D- $22/3 years
Player E- $15/1 year
Player F- $10/4 years
Player G- $4/1 year
Player H- $1/1 year
Player I- $1/1 year
Player J- $1/3 years

If they are the leading bid on Player A, then the bids on players B, C and D would be thrown out since those bids in conjunction with the bid on player A would put the team over the salary cap. If they are then the leading bid on players E, the bid on player F would be discarded since that bid would also put them over the salary cap. If their bid to player G is not high but they have the high bid on player H, player I and J's bids would be thrown out considering they only have three open roster spots.

- A bid can not be withdrawn once it is made and the team has been told it is high. As soon as the PM is sent in to me, all bids are binding.

- EDIT- All Bird rights players being resigned will officially sign their contracts on Sunday August 29. Teams who wish to use additional cap space must do so before midnight on August 28. The only exception will be if a team is actively leading a bid on a different FA. If the team is actively leading a bid at midnight August 28, they can continue to bid on that specific player only using whatever cap space they have before their Bird FA officially signs.

This all may look and sound confusing still so if anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask so we have no issues come Sunday morning.

Question about this part. So the hypothetical GM with $100 in cap space could theoretically place a bid submitting an offer to every single player in free agency if they wanted to?

Then whichever they lead on stays legitimate as long as they have remaining cap, while illegitimate offers get discarded?

Seems a bit silly if I’m getting this correctly. Why not have it so your offers must add up to the amount of cap space you have? Why not force GMs to prioritize their pursuits?

Teams can offer contracts to as many players as they want but can only sign players if they have the roster and cap space to do so. It has always been this way through the first three FA periods although doing what I did in the example you quoted has really never or at least very rarely ever been done before. Basically, by doing so, a team could really hamstring themselves by placing so many bids. If they miss out on their first target or two but hit on a few lower targets they may not be able to bid again for the people they really want. A team who misses on players A-E in that scenario but hit on F-H would not be able to bid again on their top targets during the next bidding window unless they waived a player since they would be at 15 players with the leading bids of F-H. Also, a team who leads on lesser players may tie up their cap space preventing them from upping their offers to players they really are targeting.

Like I said, teams can do it that way, but it really hasn't been done basically because most GM's realize the danger in putting out that many bids. You don't want to get stuck holding bids on players you truly don't want, at least not as long as the players you do want are still available. This has always been the way it works, but teams realize the importance of prioritizing the players they want before committing to lesser players.

Ok I assumed we could only bid for as many guys as we could sign. This kinda changes how I feel about the system but whatever works.

Yeah, another thing is being able to bid on an excessive amount of players does bish no favors in reducing his workload. It kinda defeats the purpose of the 1-PM limit within the bid hour. Cuz now bish could still potentially have to track a schit-ton of bids during the hour in between which he’s using to sort through the bids. But it is what it is.

If you have $30 and one roster spot available you could offer that $30 to five players. Basically like offering five players a deal and telling them first one to accept gets the deal. Or you could break it up and offer multiple players lesser deals knowing that you'd only sign one (unless you also were willing to waive someone). Teams still need to prioritize their bids and place them in the order they want them.

It is definitely possible. Like I said, I don't believe most teams (at least the teams with cap space) will bid on more than a handful of players per PM. It really hasn't happened before and even though this system is a bit different than the past, I don't see the benefit of teams with cap space doing this. Teams are still better off targeting specific players and going for them initially. At least, that is the way I would look at it not wanting to be tied up with bids on lesser players while my targets sit unsigned still.

Moody finishing up decently. He went 6 of 12 from the field for 14 points in only 24:23 minutes. His three ball was not falling but he kept things respectable. I think Moody gets decent minutes from jump street. It is still a matter of how the SIM views him.

The minutes per game really shows Moody's potential to have a regular season impact as a reserve with NBA GSW. He averaged 16.3 points per game in just 24.2 minutes. He did not quite get to my .440 FG% number but he got close at .429. He shot .370 from three and .778 from the charity stripe.

I think I got a steady eddie in this guy. His upside may not be Klay Thompson; but he might be a 18/5/3 SG/SF with above average efficiency and solid defense. I like him a lot. Now if I get Mann's shot fixed

On summer league

1. Bucket-getters usually shine
From Josh Selby (24.2 PPG) in 2012 to Andrew Goudelock (19.0 PPG) in 2013, Jordan McRae (24.3 PPG) in 2016 and Antonio Blakeney (21.0 PPG) in 2018, bucket-getting guards have proven that summer league is the ideal setting to put up big numbers. With minimal practice time and less of an emphasis on offensive execution and defensive intensity, you're bound to see huge performances from fearless guards who have the type of freedom that they likely won't see alongside NBA stars in the regular season.

The 2k rating system has been trash ever since they started caring about what players thought. I remember back when being over a 75 meant you were a starter, being over an 80 meant you were an all star, and 90+ ratings were reserved for the most elite and well rounded players only.

https://maddenratings.weebly.com/nba-2k10.html

Look at this ****. Ain't no way under the old rating system Tatum is a 90+, he's more like an 85 kinda guy. Looked it up to see when the 2k ratings started to be trash. Looks like 2k14 is the first game where most starters were over an 80 and by 2k17 every all star in the game was rated 85+.
